This is in the Portuguese Press today http://dn.sapo.pt/2007/08/07/s.....morta.html Roughly translating: According to Diário de Notícias (a respected newspaper), the Portuguese police have known for a month that Madeleine was killed on the 3rd of May, having definitely ruled out the abduction theory. The suspicions on the McCann couple have gained new strength. The revelation was made yesterday to this newspaper by a source related to the juridical process, and the source emphasizes the fact that the Portuguese and English police have been paying attention to the McCann's movements from the beginning, wherever they went on their campaign. A new piece of evidence made the police sure that Madeleine has died, and that same piece of evidence set off the searches made by PJ two weeks ago at PDL. Right after that, the british policemen came to Portugal to support the investigation with the special dogs. The PJ, who has claimed since the very beginning of the case that the key to the case is at PDL, investigated new clues and discretely interviewed Algarvian residents, cross-referencing information, especially near the Ocean Club. They ended up requesting the support of the british police to return to the apartment where Madeleine dissapeared from. On the other hand, according to the information the newspaper received, Kate McCann was shouting 'They' taken her!' when she went back to the restaurant where they were having dinner after realizing that the girl was gone. Moments after that, a tourist who was staying in an apartment near the McCann's heard Kate saying 'We failed!' in a self-criticizing manner. In the questionings that were done to M's parents, family and friends of the couple which were done in the next few days, there were several contradictory versions of the story. This contributed to accumulated doubt about the abduction theory which had already been put forth by the investigators. The investigators are still concentrating their attention on the 'circle of family and friends' of the McCanns, a police source told the newspaper. According to the same source, there are friends of the couple who were on vacation at PDL who are under police surveillance in England and who are going to be called to Portugal for new questioning sessions at PJ. New suspect In the meantime, the PJ revealed a new suspect yesterday. According to the available data, it's a man in his 40s, about 1.70-1.75 meters tall, with very tanned skin. According to the newspaper, he's probably half african half english. The description matches the first drawing which was done in the beginning of the investigation, which was made from declarations of residents who claimed to have seen a man on the 3rd of May who was taking an apparently sleeping child, and who avoided getting near the people who were walking nearby. This happened near the resort where the McCanns were on vacation. The possibility now being put forth is that it was this same man who was seen with Murat right after Maddie dissapeared, together with the journalists near the apartment. But according to witnesses, the man was also seen before Maddie dissapeared, near the McCann family. Right after Maddie dissapared, he was again seen and photographed near the journalists. The police is reportedly watching this man, who keeps an eye on all his movements, making records. Murat wants to be compensated Murat's lawyer admitted yesterday the possibility of asking for compensation from the portuguese state, stating however that the priority now is to get his client out of the 'arguido' status.

I think we have to also keep an open mind,as at this stage nothing has been confirmed to give any proof of the findings,,,,,,,,all this activity took place last week,,,

So then one questions the inquiry into the investigation from day 1-obviously the portuguese police have no idea and seems they have been clutching at straws, trying to make themselves look competent when infact they look totally incompetent- The worlds press was on them and they didn't want to look as if they didn't have a clue- Shame they couldn't have let the British detectives and their more advanced equipment into the apartment from the beginning this might have been solved a lot quicker. catherine xx

Well after reading this, I hope test's on the bottle prove Madaleine is alive. British police have found traces of blood in Madeleine McCann's holiday bedroom. DNA tests are being carried out to see if they came from the missing four-year-old. The dramatic discovery came after UK detectives were finally allowed to review the three-month Portugese investigation. If the blood is Madeleine's it would change the whole nature of the inquiry by introducing the possibility that she died there rather than being kidnapped. Officers from the McCanns' home force in Leicestershire used specialised equipment and their own sniffer dogs to re-examine the two-bedroom apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz. Windows were blacked out with plastic sheeting and tape to let technicians use ultraviolet light to scan for fingerprints, fibres and minute specks of blood invisible to the naked eye. They found blood on a wall in the bedroom where Madeleine had been sleeping with her younger brother and sister on May 3. Police sources quoted in a Portuguese newspaper said there were signs someone had tried to clean the blood away. Marion

Robin , That give me great comfort to know,,,,and Im sure many others who may have doubts,!! Although in fairness to every parent.minder or guardian.all children should be safe whether in our line of eye or not..suspsion shouldnt have to be thrown at anyone helping a hurt child,but sadly it has come where even a good samaritian has come under a critical eye, Regarding all the above posts,we dont know the whys for any thing what going on over in Portugal.but hopefully things wont be dragged on for another 3 months ,and that child is found,,,,,,

as much as it infringes on people privacey..I hope complexes like these install CCTV,in and around,,,,,,I feel for the Mark Warner enterprise,as they share no blame in this, but are suffering in many ways,

I heard on the news today that one in ten had cancelled their holidays due to worry the same thing could happen to them. People are just going to be more carefull and keep an eye on their kid's at all times when possible. Marion

I quite agree Robin. The dogs should have been out weeks/months ago. I understand there are very strict guidelines about the information that is allowed to be released to the press. So I would guess that's why the PJ are not using the press to their advantage - purely because they are not allowed to. As for the article. I agree. I neither believe it or disbelieve it. I'm just looking bits and pieces up to decide how I feel about it. Personally I hope to god it's wrong and that Madeleine was spotted in Belguim the other day. But it never hurts to keep an open mind on things. And yes there has been others holidaying in the apartment since - I believe.

ROL I thought the same thing..why werent they brought in before now? You would have thought they would have had the dogs at the site where they searched before looking for a body. Marion

These dogs may not be being used in the little girls search but for something totally different,unrelated to the M McCann case,,so its unwise to assume they are there for that reason,,,also applies to the activity at Mr Murats house,or that of his mother,,,,,,,,
