They usually are Hoff but have you been to their church?

Andrew - have you read your Bible?? Jesus ate with the sinners because he likened it to 'the sick needing a doctor whereas the healthy do not.' I am offended by your analogy that most Born Again Christians have 'a criminal or dodgy past' in the context that you are trying to paint us all with a dodgy background and label us as unsavoury characters. Ails **sorry i havent read the bible, dont own one, not a christian so have never bothered... i am not trying to say that all have a dodgy background or unsavoiry at all.. its just the section of devout born againers that seem to, it may be down to how they have been portrayed but i'm sure its not just me who thinks this... dont think this is because i am ignorant i was just making a commentary and i am sorry if you took offence...

Didn't know there was one in The Pool Hoff. Where? And I hadn't a problem with them as such until I was badly let down.

i don't have any problems with the 'born again' idea, except a vague unease that it is similar to Catholic absolution of sins, in the sense that sins you committed in the past can be somehow nullified by the confession,or conversion? i guess it seems to me something of an 'easy way out'. The born again chistian in my village is evangelical and preaches in the streets on a Sunday, but is also a 'fundamental creationist' who pushes some of his beliefs on the kids which i feel is wrong. Example he was telling my son that carbon-dating of fossils etc is wrong because the world is younger than the scientists say and was made in 7 'literal' days. That humans did not evolve form apes, which ok i see his point, but I believe that science and the creation are not mutually exclusive. Rosex

I've got to go now - forgotten an appointment. Please keep the thread moving - and I'll Google when I get back.

Rose, the price for sin was paid by Christ's death on the cross. I don't think He would have called that the easy way out. 'Born again' Christians are people who accept God's forgiveness by faith in Christ's death and resurrection, and see Christianity as a way of life, not a religion. Janice

I know someone that is part of the 'Church of the King'. Anyone that thinks it okay to leave a 10 year old home , with a 7 year old brother alone, in order to attend 'house church' saying that God will take care of her children is beyond me.

probably not the easy way out but still, i dont think its right for someone to have their sins absolved meerly for becomming a born again.........

Janice, thank you, i was trying to think how to say it. I wonder if people are muddling born again Christians with religious sects like Pentecostal. I was brought up a Baptist, was converted (i.e. born again) when I was 15 and baptised by immersion. In my church when I attended very few people shouted out hallelulah, maybe the occasional Amen from some of the older members. However, when I last went to that church, about 15+ years ago it had been 'taken over' by a group of pentecostal people to my Mothers horror and the church was full of people shouting hallelulah and clapping and all sorts. I no longer attend church since I moved around the country but I still consider myself a Christian. Incidentally I have never heard anyone speaking in tongues so can't comment on that. ann glos

Janice I meant no offence ,that is just my point! Jesus' sacrifice was absolutely NOT the easy way out and that is why i am a little suspicious when people have been 'saved' ..... remember Lord Longford being convinced that Myra Hindley was repentant because she had converted to Catholicism.....(.my mother was a Catholic so I do know a little about confession etc) but would confession and a few 'Hail Marys' really put her on the same footing as say Mother Theresa? I am not anti-born again, anti- Catholic or anti- any religion as you will see if you read my replies on Kris' thread. Rosex

Oops looks like I have killed the thread! My point really was that it doesn't matter whether you call yourself a Christian, a 'Born- again' Christian,Catholic, protestant etc it is how you 'Live' your Christianity that matters (in my humble opinion). Rosex

Rambling Rose Someone coming in a minute but just had to say I agree with you. What is your take on suicide then? Do you consider that's an easy way out?

Rambling

Rambling Report 30 Jul 2007 16:57

Ooh Jill, that is a difficult one! I will have to think about that one! I tend to believe that life is sacred and as a vegetarian i personally apply that to other species too! However i am not so set in that belief that I would for example not have an animal put to sleep if it was in pain (I have done that). My mother was in pain at the end and I think if I had been able to spare her that by turning off a life support for example, I would have done ,knowing that she was dying anyway........... The suicide of a terrorist bomber and the suicide of someone ill, dying or desperate are to my mind very different to each other. I think it depends on motive? I do not believe that someone who commits suicide is going to somehow be condemned to 'hell' or 'limbo' or whatever......I think that they will perhaps have a longer period of help and healing when they pass into the afterlife (I would probably use the word heaven myself). My belief is that God understands our weakness and is forgiving, unless we reject that forgiveness and understanding when faced with it after death....if that makes sense? Rosex

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth Romans ch1 v 16. 'God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world;but that the world through him might be saved' John ch3 v17 'If any man be in Christ,he is a new creature:old things are passed away;behold, all things are become new' 2nd Corinthians ch5 v17
