Marlene Interesting fact about Hinton in the Hedges. Originally known as Hintone in the Domesday Book, the present name dates from the 18th century when the open fields were enclosed for sheep grazing with new hedges made of hawthorn. Hinton in the Hedges is near Brackley and close to the Oxfordshire border. Julie I'm only a mile away from Raunds! Christine I went to school in Wellingborough in the 1960's. It's changed a lot since then though, I must admit.

I'm an ex Northamptonshire-ite living in Hampshire now. Almost all of my ancestors orginated and stayed in Northants. Its makes my research relatively simple. Im in Old, Rothwell, Kettering, Easton on the Hill, Stamford, Raunds, Weekley, Rothwell....... I feel as if ive never left. I still visit my father who lives in Kettering and my 10 year old daughter would love us to move there if only for Wicksteed Park. Julie

Hi Marlene Hinton-in-the-Hedges is in the Silverstone/Brackley/Banbury direction. Can't remember exactly, but it has a Northants postcode so you'll be fine! Sue

Hi Janet, The problem in Northampton (I've been informed!) Was that everyone left work early, instead of the staggered migration that usually happens!! As for my Bland family, none from your neck of the woods. My husband's great great grandfather was from Dingley (near Mkt Harborough), but he and his family moved to Northampton when he was about 5 in 1840ish. Since then , they've all been Northampton born, bred and died!!! Steph

Does anyone know where Hinton In the Hedges is/was? My g'grandmother was brought up there and her father later died there. Can I thus claim a little bit of Northants? We have concrete cows here too except the real ones get painted in the colours of the farmer's favourite rugby team. BOYS!! Kia ora Marlene in New Zealand

Steph My daughter works in Northampton and has 19 miles to travel home last Wednesday. It took her 3 and a half hours to get out of Northampton, and half an hour to travel the final 17 miles! A friend whose daughter works at Brackmills left work at 5 p.m. and got home at 12.15 a.m. on Thursday morning! It seems that Northampton itself was the problem - not the main roads. Anyway - do you know if any of your Blands lived in East Northamptonshire? We had a family of Blands that owned a shoe factory in the village. One of the brothers owned a Kennels at Sharnbrook.

Sorry! Loads & loads of Blands in Northampton. I'm only one by marriage, but I don't recall a Geoff in the family. Steph

Hi Stephanie Any relation to Geoff Bland? A friend of mine works in Rugby and lives in Moulton - it took her 5 hours to get home in the snow and 2 hours to get to work the next morning! Sue

Was walking my 6 year old home from school. It started snowing as we left school gates, by the time we got home (5 minutes), we looked like walking snowmen!! It did take my hubby 3 hours to get from the M1 Crick to Duston, (usually 25 mins), because a lorry had jack-knifed at East Haddon, though!!!

Janet Report 30 Jan 2004 22:48

Steph
