Strump I watched the Grid for about 45 mins last night, got completely lost as to who was who (it would have helped if I'd put my glasses on, for sub-titles!) and my overall thought was- so many contacts all over the World, all with their own agendas.........I don't think terrorism will ever be solved. I just hope that when these particular Terrorists get to Paradise that MY God says "Oh, no, youre not coming in here, youre going to everlasting damnation" And, while were on the subject, can anyone tell me what freedom they are actually fighting for? Not the freedom of innocent people, obviously.

As the song goes, when will they ever learn, when will they e-ever learn? In my lifetime hopefully. Joy

Those who are totaly convinced there is a God , me NOT being one of them, surely must belive in a Devil. They may say that disasters such as this is the Devils work? just a thought.

i agree that terrorists have always been around, but i do think that the atrocities seem to get worse. it is my children i fear for, not just from terrorists but just walking down the street these days is a danger.

Thanks Elaine!! (what sort of undies do they wear then?!) And as for the Russia thing...my husband was incredibly affected - he kept saying how he would feel if it was our son involved. I think all parents feel like that - I know I did after Dunblane and I hadn't even had one then! My son wanted to know what they were talking about on the news - he has such an "innocent" life really, and there's these kids having to deal with all manner of horrific things... Kim x

Well those of you who are my age will have grown up in the Cold War with the ever-constant threat of nuclear war. My dad really was convinced we were all going to die when there was the Cuban missile crisis - he'd already been in one war. I still think our children are most at risk of disease - a new strain of flu, or even a new illness - AIDS, SARS, Legionnaires Disease all occurred in my lifetime. We can no more prevent these things than our ancestors could prevent the plague, diphtheria, typhoid, whooping cough etc. Life is a risky thing. nell

I'm probably going to regret opening my mouth BUT - I certainly "cowered" after Sep 11 - the sound of low flying aircraft I found unsettling for days. Yes, we have to get on with our lives but terrorism happens in this country too and I do wonder what sort of world my son will grow up in. Kim

The so-called threat of terrorism doesn't bother me. Unless you live in Iraq or the Gaza Strip then you're unlikely to be caught up. I don't recall anyone cowering behind the sofa when the IRA was bombing shoping centres or when Al Quaida blew up American embassies in Africa. Terrorism is nothing new. The IRA actually killed their first person in the 1860s for pities' sake. You can't stop it and you never will and anyone who says you can is deluding themselves.

I recently wrote to one of our local Councillors to ask why a friend in Studley, back of beyond, where the only possible target may be one of the two Petrol Stations, or (Heaven Forbid) The Lark, had received his Booklet, whereas I, living in the Portsmouth Harbour Basin, and within a couple of hundred yards of a Navy Shore Base had heard nothing. She brought me some info that she had downloaded from our County Council's Website which gave some indication of the County's Emergency plans. It pays to ask. By the way, I am not so much bothered about my own safety, but I have a son & grandson living nearby. And the little one is the only one of my 9 who still bears the family name!! Jim

Daniel I can't think there's much point in us all thinking about what awful things could happen. Apart from the terrorist threat (and there are so many different terrorist causes), we could be drowned in flooding, frozen in a new ice age, hit by a meteor (apparently there is a near miss about 2-3 times a week), or that big volcano which is underneath most of Yellowstone Park could erupt - it's due any time now. Or we could just get on with our lives as best we can. Our ancestors may not have known about terrorism, but they knew about plagues, floods, fires and war, not to mention the ever-present fear of starvation. Count your blessings. nell
