Bilmans village. According to 1881 census on LDS one of my relatives was born here. Anybody know where it is or was or if no such place what should it have said. Geography was never my strong point lol Beth :)

I know sometimes villages get 'swallowed up' by towns and end up as a ward or something and I wonder if that might have happened in this case Beth :)

Beth I think you may be looking for Bulmans Village which was (and still may be) in Durham. I've come across it before and although I live in the N.E. I don't know where it is (if it still exists) Maybe you need to look at an old map of Durham. Maureen

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I don't have a maiden name but durham makes more sense cos the family flitted to and fro, turning up in Hartlepool, one child born in Sedgefield and sometimes in Durham city so Bulman/Bullman in County Durham looks a good bet Thank u one and all Beth :)

Now I've just found another reference to a birth in Bullmans village, Northumberland in 1901 census. Did the boundaries change. How can I check parish records if I can't find the place? Help!!!

From a Rootsweb message board (in answer to the same question): "A large part of what is now Gosforth High Street was originally known as Bulman's Village. The Bulman family were local mobsters in the early 19th century who lived in what became the County pub."
