Couldn't find my ancestor, James. Finally found him in 1851 as Jas. I posted a similar question on this site months ago and most responses were for James. |

Ahhh right now I get it... LOL In Scotland Thomas' get called Tam more than Tom I guess its like Alexander... I often find it down as Alex'r even though most people with the name get called Alex or Alec or even Sandy. |

Tom is short for Thomas, its just that Thos (and Chas and Jas) are accepted written abbreviations of the full names, like Eliz. for Elizabeth and Robt for Robert. nell |

Traditionally, "Jas." is the diminutive of James. I have a relative whose given name is Jazmine but who is usually referred to as "Jaz". len |
