I am going into hospital at the weekend for surgery on Monday. I am really really scared. i must be the most nervous person going! I had an operation 2 years ago so should know what to expect and it wasn't anything near as bad as I thought it would be. So why am I so scared, nervous and stressed!!?? Maybe someone can offer advice or at least tell me I'm normal. I feel such a fool and I'm sure others don't get this bad. Jane |

If it really needs doing then there is nothing to worry about. Think of it as a splinter in your finger. You know how painful they are to remove, but oh! the relief when you get it over and done with. Despite what anyone says to the contrary we have a wonderful health service, and they will do everything possible to get you better! |

You are definitely normal! I think everyone would be nervous, it just depends on the individual as to how nervous! We all have things that frighten us, whether it be hospitals, dentists, needles, birds or whatever. Make sure you find out exactly what is going on, what the procedure will be, and tell the nursing staff that you are particularly nervous. I'm sure they will do their best to reassure you. Wishing you all the very best, Mandy :) |

Perfectly normal. Nobody really likes hospitals, I think it is partly the fear of the unknown so make sure you know what is going to happen. I am sure you wouldn't be having an operation if it was not going to benefit you so look ahead to afterwards when it is all over and you will be reaping the benefit. And we will all think positive thoughts for you. Take care Ann Glos |

I agree with the rest you are normal. I have not had an operation, but I have given blood about 45 times, I still have a few nerves as I walk in. Also look at Tani Gray-Thompson, sick before every race and she's an olympic champion 11 times! Good luck Bob |

Well hearing that others feel like this no matter how many ops they have helps. At least I feel a bit more 'normal' now. I don't actually feel ill so although i know I need the thing I also can't say well at least I shall feel better. I keep trying to focus on afterwards but hate fuss so don't like people doing things for me. I know they will have to though at least for a few weeks. I hate putitng people out! But I know there is always someone on here to make me smile & laugh. Jane |

Hope all goes well for you, and i hate depending on people as well, but sometimes i have to due to spinal problem lol sandra |
