Hi all, i had a thought today whilst talking to my youngest daughter, stood staring at the sweets in our local shop. What are favourite sweets from when we were kids. I'm 38 and remember getting 5 dainties for 10p or tow highland toffee bars that would last nearly all day. I also seem to remember that the dainties where huge or so i thought at the time. But my all time favourite were spangles...mmmmm!

mmmmmm spangles! Why did they ever get rid of them? Whenever you ask anyone over 35 to name one of their favourite sweets, Spangles comes up every time. If I remember correctly, there was a sort of mustard type colour one. Don't quite know what flavour it was meant to be but it was delicious.

Ooh, I liked those acid-drop flavour Spangles, in a blue packet! :)

Les, l'm sure that was an olde english spangle, they were my favourites as well. They brought them back a few years ago, but they were'nt as nice. Anne

Just typing that has brought back lots of good memories. Can anyone remember the big liquorice sticks with the flat ends or the liquoric roots that you chewed on. Just twigs in fact.

Baileys mixture,the newsagents was called baileys and when there tubs of sweets were nearly empty they would put all the odd bits in the one tub and charge 10p a bag, I used to think they were the bee s knee s....also loved fruit salads and black jacks,Penny in Dorset

I can remember goin to the baths every saturday and buying two or three dainties that would last the whole walk home.

I remember the mustard coloured spangels, was it butterscotch? I liked the licorice ones too. Four blackjacks for a penny and a lovely pink and white lollipop which you could suck for hours, made of a hard powder, forgotten what it was called.

Liquorice root! My 10 year old son loves them. Whenever I try to cut down on smoking I use liquorice root as a substitute. It is still easily obtainable in health shops. You can also get liquorice imps there too!

Butterscotch spangles are my particular favourite..

One of my favourites was Rowntrees Butterscotch gums, lovely and chewy, always ate them while I was reading the 'Famous Five' books! :))

Don't know if this company supplied to the rest of the country or just middlesbro, but we used to get lowcocks fizzy drinks delivered and i have strong memory of american cream soda, which was dark green in colour. I have bought a few times over the years from different makers, but none seem to come near those bottles from lowcocks

Oh yes, sherbert fountain dips, I loved them too and any one remember Lovehearts

My wife put some lovehearts in my valentine card this year, but complained about them being different. I know..ooorrrr!
