NYLON is the biggest builder of static electricity and Anne touching metal shelving every few seconds is not going to shock u as your not getting the big build up in your body Or you could buy yourself an anti static strap like they us in electronics Paul

Paul thanks for that! I get such painful shocks that the thought of inducing it myself just scares me, but if, as you say, it will not be too bad I think I will give it a go. i am going to Tesco this afternoon so will try touching the shelves. Thanks Anne

I do occassionally. A while ago I'm sure I affected the till in a shop, I'd already had a couple of shocks in there and at the till the total came to about 33 thousand pounds something - a little excessive for 1 CD!!. Haven't had many shocks recently but both me and my daughter have given up with our hair - just flys out in all directions. Kxx

In industry there are boots/shoes with anti static soles.......they allow the charge to leak away. I was walking through the complex where my dad lives and happened to stroke a radiator.............ouch! i said, (or words to that effect) Bob

Yes I get this all the time from the shopping trolleys. Feel a bit of a fool if your on your own and let out a yelp! LOL When I was a nurse, the hospital beds were the problem. I dreaded going near them. There would actually be sparks. Another problem I have is with watches. They just don't work on me. I'm fine if it's bettery operated, but a wind-up watch, useless! Anne Me and my eldest daughter are full of the stuff. Partner and youngest daughter don't suffer at all. do you have velour type seats in your car? I blame this for a lot of my shocks. When I was younger I also used to 'blow up' various electrical appliances on a regular basis. It's mainly light bulbs these days! lol Jeanette x

Paul - Went to Tesco - sorry but as habit has it I kept my gloves on! 10 mins into my shop I thought 'must try it'. Touched shelves as I went round - no pain at all!! I got to the check outs and suddenly the trolley came alive and stung me!'!!!! VERY PAINFUL!!!! Static Anne

Paul (Tigger) Report 9 Mar 2005 23:22

Anne Report 9 Mar 2005 23:26

I'm always gettung shocks from the car. I always close the door with my elbow, or on the glass. My husband never seem to get one! The worst shock I had was from the metal shelving the library uses to store the GRO index fiche!! The crack was so loud several people turned to look at me. Ouch! Anne

Paul most of the shelves in Tesco are plastic! I took off my leather gloves after about 10 minutes (remember these shocks are painful!!!!) i proceeded to touch the plastic shelves every 20 seconds (timed it myself) and got no reaction! The check out was VERY PAINFUL!!!! Anne
