We were thinking about going to Australia a couple of years ago, when you read through all the forms and what they said you had to have and do it made me wonder why we don't do the same thing here. We would have had to had HIV tests, chest X rays the lot. Plus pay a huge amount of money just to get the forms processed, with no guarantee we would get through. High time we did that here.

jean i agree.i hold the british flag close to my heart and it saddens me when this happens.it is an insult to the british people.the thing is it is probebly exceptable to them to do that in iraq but here it is not.we have done nothing to these people it was the goverments choice to go ij with america and it was out of our control.they should have been arrested i do not care why they did it.xxxx):

Brian, My sentiments exactly. I am of the opinion that before an immigrant is allowed into this country they should have an understanding of English and if they wish to make Great Britain their home they should swear allegiance to our flag and abide by our laws. Not really sorry if this upsets anyone. Jean (who used to be very tolerant) x.

david i'm sorry that you feel like that.my views are my own and to me it was very disrespectful to my country.as for nobody doing anything to stop this.maybe it was the fear of being thrown into prison for causing racial hatredxx(:

can i also say it doesn't help when a few weeks ago another member mentioned that a man who is quite well known in the ethnic communities(he used to do london today)wanted to have separate schools for black boys.segregated from the white boys.(the man who said it was black)so in fairness people like that are not helping to intergrate.blacks and whites together.it works both waysxxxxxxxxx):

I couldn't agree more with Fred about the Race Relations Board. Their original purpose may have been to promote integration and harmony, but by supporting any slightest perceived slur with the full force of the law they achieve the exact opposite. And the 'G Word' seems to have been air-brushed out of the language. How else, other than ghettos, can you describe areas where over 50% of the population is non Anglo-Saxon and over 90% of pupils in schools are from ethnic 'minorities' (i.e. majorities?). The process of integration isn't helped either by Government leaflets etc. being available in other languages. If immigrants can live among their own, pursue the customs, culture and religion of their homeland, retain their original nationality and have no need to learn the language of their host country, how much integration can realisically be expected to occur?

Personally Lisa - no, I don't think a demonstration is going to necessarily incite racial hatred - this happened some time ago so did it? Do you know of any incidents that developed from this because I don't. I'll leave this thread alone because to my mind the flag burning was so much less harmful than the subtle and evil campaign of discrimination that the BNP has been working so hard at for so long - so I find it hard to debate:)

Lisa Report 7 Apr 2005 13:09

i would prefer it if parliment was burnt dowm.with tony blair in it.it is unacceptable to stand in regents park and burn the british flag for any reason.david don't you think that it would stir up racial hatred no matter what reason for it.it is unacceptable.in iraq fine in britain.it isn't.

Unknown

Unknown Report 7 Apr 2005 13:07

I disagree that the demonstration was an act of racism but I don't remember it that well. I would much rather a bit of material was burnt than the Houses of Parliament lol Yes Bendy - I've just been informed that u can go to Basra now and burn one ;)

Unknown Report 7 Apr 2005 13:04

Do we have a reciprocal arrangement with the country in question where we can go there and burn their national flag with no fear of prosecution?
