POSITIVE Pauline

POSITIVE Pauline Report 15 May 2005 20:20

Hello All My daughter is due to go in to hospital on Wednesday (18th) to give birth to our 2nd granddaughter by caesarian section. She is worried about, and we (hubbie and I) are trying to be really positive for her. My only fear is that my own birth was by section, and my mother died 3 weeks after from thrombosis. I know that things have moved on a long way since then (1951), and the medical people have been informed so that they can take all necessary precautions. Still a worry though. Your thoughts and prayers much appreciated. Pauline

What a shame to have such a terrible worry hanging over you when it should be such a happy time. As you say, things have moved on so much from your birth and as the Doctors are aware of maternal history, I am sure your daughter will be well taken care of. Best wishes for you all and enjoy the day!! Another twiglet for your tree. Let us know how it all goes. Jacky xx

Pauline, sending you and your daughter loads of love, hugs and prayers. I had a Caesarian 16 years ago due to a serious illness, and I'm still here to tell the tale, so I'm sure you're right when you say that things have moved on since then. Love Mandy xxx

Hi pauline, I can understand your worries and I think it's only natural. When something has happened in the family before even though you know that it is very unlikely to happen again it doesn't stop you thinking what if it does. My Father died resulting from Peritonitis (burst apendix) so when my Daughter got the same thing I was very worried indeed but I had no need as she was fine. I wish you and your daughter all the best, chin up. Margaret

Hi Will be thinking of you all. I had 2 by c section. One 7 years ago & one nearly 5. They introduced the sexy stockings between the 2!! So things have changed even in the last 7 years. I think they can even send you home now after about 48 hours whereas I had to stay in for 5 days!! Penny

Pauline, I think I am right in saying that in the 1950's new mothers were kept in bed for long periods of time, not like today, when they are up and about in no time, and don't forget those stockings lol. I am sure everything will be fine. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and your daughter on Wednesday, and don't forget to let us know the vital statistics. Has she chosen a name yet?

Hello Pauline Much love and positive thoughts to you and your daughter. With a planned section everything will have been factored in in their preparations for the op. Nothing will have been left to chance. The whole procedure has changed so much in 50 years to be almost unrecognisable. Please try not to worry. My grandaughter was born by emergency caesarian section 4 and a half years ago - and I was with my daughter all the way through - a magical experience. Hugs Magsxx

Pauline My husband was born by caesarian in 1955 and his brother in 1960. A friend of mine had 3 children in the late 1980s/early 1990s this way too. All are fine. Please try not to worry - having a baby whichever way is risky, but probably a lot safer now than its ever been. I am sure you will be posting an exciting update on Wednesday! nell
