Hi everyone! Day 4. Pink's email follows: Well how do I start this other than the truth... It was effing awful! 90 degrees and 4 hours to walk 2 miles... Up a mountain!!!!! With me cursing and swearing every step of the way as you can imagine! After the 1st 2 hours I was in tears but hearing Gaynor chanting 'Siegel walk that wall'. I have to admit saying back that I had promised to walk the effing wall but not an effing mountain! :o). I'm sure I could hear the mad woman laughing!!!! When we got to the top, yet again another waterworks session but this time it wouldn't stop! Fortunately everyone here has deep reasons for coming... One young guy of only 43 lost his wife in September, another girl younger than me lost her husband!!! So everyone was so kind and stayed away til I was ready to face them! After lunch we obviously had to come down the mountain and there was only one way down.. By foot!! Which I found much easier but still painful! So I've just showered and got all the dust off me and I am just about to have my first beer and funny enough it won't be my last! At 8.30pm China time tonight we are lighting 50 tealights in memory of those that have gone so if anyone wants to join me it will be 1.30 lunchtime your time! ~~~~~~~~~~ Day 3. Just had an email from Pink and a quick chat by phone. She's returning on 24th not 25th May by the way. This is her very brief report: Another amazing day that nearly killed me but hey I did it - if anyone wants to look it up its the Simatai Section that we did. We have just moved to a new hotel and its PINK - yes really pink! ~~~~~~~~~~ Day 2. All Pink has told me is two words F****** AWESOME!!! Apparently words can't describe it but she'll try on her return. ~~~~~~~~~~ China calling... Day 1 is complete and although the legs made it, the lungs struggled big time! Steep is an understatement, and anyone that has seen pictures of the wall should know that they are the renovated bits that you see... We've walked up, up and up bits that are only wide enough for half a person and down some even more treachorous bits to boot! Thanks to all of you that have texted me... You really have bolstered the spirit! Its cold, damp and bordering on unbearable here but the good thing is the food is fantastic! And for a bird who doesn't eat much I am doing fantastic! There has been some amazing sites already and that doesn't include the 50 chinese people wanting to carry tour bags as you get off the bus! :o) No blisters yet I am pleased to say! Poverty here is rife.. Mainly due to farmers not allowed to farm as the soil is rubbish due to draught... But friendly they can't be accused of not being! They are part of the 50 that try to mug you as you get off the coach, but I am proud to say I carried my own bag anyway! It was too wet for Susie to join me today as she didn't have any waterproofs with her but she has said no matter what she's out tomorrow as she was bored by herself today! :o) Anyway, off for food soon so more updates tomorrow!
