Jean, I have told her that I would have a baby for anyone, mind you it took me 10 yrs to take the plunge, my mother telling me it was the worst thing in the world,(probably was she only had me) I was dead scared, then found it really easy, I must have been lucky. Carol 43301181

I think with second children, like second marriages, its the triumph of hope over experience! I do know that after my first birth when I had an episiotomy - and by that stage I would have consented to having both legs amputated if they would just stop the ***** pain, I was rather worried about the second one. I had a friend in the same boat, and we agreed 2nd time round couldn't be as bad, so you can imagine how I felt when she had her second child and called me to tell me 'it was worse'. Mind you, I stopped at second child and she went on to have a 3rd - the worst labour of the lot. nell

Is the Pope Polish...oops. Is the Pope German!!!! But it must all be worth it and we must forget about afterwards or there would be an awful lot of only children!!! Jacquie

Yes Carol I have 3 children but only saw youngest my son David being born it was great experience for me but I really felt for my wife. What amazed me was how 'thick' the umbilical chord was I was expecting it to be like piece of string, but when I thought about it later it would have to have some substance to it because it is feeding and providing life to the baby. My daughter is due to give birth in 6 weeks, really frightened this time, I said why, she said you told me it would not hurt, and it did. Still trying to convince her it won't hurt. I was there for the lst and hope I will make it for the 2nd the most wounderful experiece in the world. Carol 430181

There are no words adequate to describe it, but agony and torture come fairly close. Main difference between my first son's birth and second son's is that the first one was nearly 15 hours and when he was born I sank back on the pillow and thought 'Thank God that's over, now I can die'. After 2nd birth, only 3-and-a half- hours, I sat up and thought 'Thank God that's over; now I can have a cup of tea'. nell

Having witnessed one birth that of my son David nearly 22 years ago it looked rather painful and my wife called me quite a few choice names at the time.Just like to say I admire you all very much . Davexx
