Absolutly roxanne, crufts and such, although an example of the different breads of animal, is encoragement for people to go out and get these designer pets! Many of the breads these days are at the expense of the animals, for example sausage dogs have terrible back problems due to breaders trying to make them longer.. etc etc.. the list goes on! there are thousands of pedigree dogs now in shelters that are now either just unwanted or out of fasion. what a terrible shame! x

Glenys the Menace! Report 21 Jun 2005 15:27

Last year, I rang the RSPCA after much dithering, to report a dog shut in a car, with not much window open (one window, about 1' open), in the sun with a bit of shade if the dog manoevred itself to it. They went to see it, and rang me back to thank me for reporting it; they'd had words with the owner. However, the next day there was a rather rude message inside the front windscreen, telling me in no uncertain terms to mind my own business! Puts you off reporting these incidents. I think people should be fined on the spot for this sort of treatment of animals; they think they can do what the hell they like. Whinge over.

glenys, that is the mentality of these people! little agresive notes and such, very sad! I wouldn't ever be put off saving an animals life, i am often threatened face to face, and still walk away with a mistreated pet! Don't let it put you off or they will win! animals need good people like you in the world that are prepared to be their voice, and prepared to be heard! xxwell done! x

Good for you, Jude! And thank you Sparkle - that incident pretty much put me off for a bit, but as you say: that's what they want.

I was quite impressed to see last weekend at the 3 counties show at Malvern, the RSPCA were parked in the carpark and an RSPCA man was walking round checking the cars. On his can he had written on the side the outside temperature and inside the car temperature. (dogs are not allowed in the showground, owners turn up with dogs expecting to be able to take them in and then leave them in the car. At Webbs garden centre at droitwich there is a special part of the car park where you can park your car with your dog in it, it is under a shade. Dogs and cats can get sunburnt too, especially white ones. Ann glos

Mandy - I took a look at your little Bichon Friese puppies and they are adorable. I bet you can't wait. As you say at least our Storm is has a happy home. A lot of people think he was unlucky, but we see it differently - he was lucky because he found us. We have given him the best treatment we can and the best home we can and he is such a happy character - would have been a terrible shame if he had been put down. I agree to a point about breeders, but maybe they need regulating more and maybe the Kennel Club need to rethink their standards a little - I personally see them as the biggest problem as they decide what's proper and what isn't regarding the way a dog looks. Not everyone wants to get a rescue dog - I didn't, mainly because I wanted a puppy with no hidden problems, I wanted to know what I was getting. About a week before we got our first dog, I witnessed our neighbours dog getting run over (and dying) - it had a thing about chasing the Skip Lorry and one day managed to get out of the garden and chase it! At that point I decided we had to have a puppy without all the bad habbits already instilled - needless to say neither of our dogs chase the traffic! I am glad to see so many Animal Lovers here though - it gives hope! Kaye x

As Kaye so rightly says it is good to see that we have so many Animal Lovers on the site It is also good to know that some of you are prepared to 'have a go' if you see a dog has been left in a car, even if it does lead to verbal unpleasantness x

Funnily enough Dooley has taught me something over the past 2 weeks. I always visualise cats snoozing in the sunshine, but he seeks out the coolest places in the flat. Of course he is wearing a thick fur coat, mainly white. Perhaps there is a splash of Polar Bear in his ancestry?

Hi, My friend told me last week that while she was shopping in Walmart an announcement was made over the loud system, telling the owner of......car please go to it now and remove your dog if you do not go immediately we have someone standing by the window to break it and release the dog!! And so they should have if the owner hadnt turned up, bearing in mind that on this day the temp was 94 with humidity making it feel like 100! Shouldnt be allowed to keep pets.. Debs x

Elizabeth Anne Report 21 Jun 2005 19:22

Tomorrow our schools finish for the summer holidays. On our local television tonight were the first reports of animals already been turned out by their owners, too much trouble to take on holiday or find a good home for the time they are away. One poor puppy was found in a saucepan outside a animal home. I say bring back the stocks, and make a public show of these people who are cruel to humans and animals. Elizabeth

Yes, Elizabeth, well said! I feel very proud that our two children come and tell us if an animal is suffering, or they're not sure if it's OK. They were nominated for an award at our local RSPCA open evening a couple of years ago, for their compassion. This, on top of their bad start in life (they're our adopted children). Oops, sorry there, bragging now. Back to the thread though, when will people ever learn?

Oh no that is so sad!! I get so annoyed when i see people have left their dogs in the cars even if they have left a tiny gap of the window open if they are going to leave the dog in the car then they shouldnt take them out until they have done the oter things they have to do!!! Grrrrrrr Hope these people got it given to them hard stupid people shouldnt have pets if they cnt care for them properly!! How would they feel being cooped up in a car with no air con no air or anything?? They wouldnt like it at all and they would soon complain!!!! oooo these sort of people drive me crazy

Have people lost all their common sense? Like Mandy (love the photos of Alfie - bet you're counting the days) we've just taken delivery of a puppy - our second Golden - she's a very precioıus gift from my graduating 8th, and we've only been given her as they know she's going to be well looked after. They still have two of the puppies as they won't just give them to anyone... this is in a country where puppies are sat in shop windows in scorching heat, and they could easily have sold them for $1000 each. Last night outside the market, on a very busy road, a couple had left their child in his car-seat on his own in the car. For once I got beaten to the post, there was hell to pay in the shop. Pure, unadulterated stupidity... perish the thought... M x

Phoenix Report 21 Jun 2005 21:27

The trouble is it isn't always the sort of people you expect who are cruel. My Husband was driving home the other week (without me) when he saw a Policeman kick his German Shepherd in the ribs!! He said the man saw him and quickly bundled the dog into the car. I can't believe my Husband didn't stop, particularly as we have German Shepherd ourselves - I would have laid into the bloke if I had seen it. But a POLICEMAN - can you believe it? Kaye x
