I mentioned this to my husband a little while ago, and he said he thought he'd heard that Mr Bakri had been arrested in Beirut earlier today. If he has, that will probably make a difference. CB >|<

Omar Bakri Mahommed the extremist Muslim cleric and preacher is due next week to have NHS treatment at St Thomas's hospital, London. He has been receiving treatment, on the NHS at the N. Middlesex Hospital, Edmonton. According to today's Daily Telegraph, he receives £331.28 monthly in incapacity benefit and £183.30 monthly disability living allowance because of a leg injury he received in his youth which, apparently, has not hindered his movements overmuch. He receives housing benefit on his home in Edmonton and council tax benefit. His wife and seven children also claim a benefits package thought to be worth £1300 per month. Bakri drives a Toyota people carrier worth £30,000 paid for under a Motability scheme. Bakri who comes from a wealthy, orthodox Muslim family from Syria ran a computer business, which failed, after he came to Britain. He was deported from Saudi Arabia and sought asylum in Britain.
