I did the Dartmoor jail break, it was so much fun, a week-end away with friends, no kids, food accommadation, and drink free, plus we raised money for charity, while having fun, what more could you ask for... Bev

Had planned to have a big party and enjoy myself. My birthday is a week before Christmas and two weeks before hogmanay. It also happened to be the Millenium. Perfect time for a party and a few wee 'refreshments'. Plans changed slightly and instead of having a party, I had a BABY. Not exactly on my birthday, 3 months later. Stewart is now 5 and starts Kindergarten in 3 weeks. One of the two best gifts I'll ever get. The other one is called Lorna and will be 13 next month. All party plans for my 40th were delayed and are scheduled to take place on 18 December 2009. 10 Years late, but better late than never!!! Christine.

When my 40th arrived, I was a single mum to a 5 yr old lad, and just buying a bigger house. I got together with 5 male friends and my son and we went for a drink at a pub where there was a garden (it was July) and had a really nice evening. For my 50th I arranged to use part of my local pub and invited all and sundry to drop in from 2pm onwards. Did my own food for the buffet (pub made me sign a disclaimer in case I poisoned anyone) and o.h. paid for everyone to have the first drink on him. Had a great time, went home at 11 p.m. (still standing!!) Now I am 2 years off my 60th - will have to think of something to celebrate that one.

I arranged a house party, invited 40 guests. I have a big record collection, and before hand made several tapes to play on my music system. Everyone turned up, and was presented with a rare boxed motown set of LPS from work friends, amongst other goodies. Ended up being a DJ playing my own disc's as friends started to go through my record collection and wanting certain records played. Had the best night ever. Couldn't get rid of a dozen of my friends until I phoned the local cab firm at 4.00am. I never had a party for my 18th 21st or 30th, and glad I did for my 40th. Life beings at 40. I've changed jobs, joined a gym and lost weight, am more happier and relaxed and passed an NVQ Certificate, and joined Genes and am still having a blast !!!!!! Dave

For my husbands 40th (which is in 16 mnths time) I am trying to get hold of his old bandmates and all the other people who did the same 'clubs' and pubs cos we were all doing the same ones at the time! This is proving difficult cos they're all over the country now!!! If they all come........or even some of them .....it will be a fantastic night!! I have 5 now for definate.....and another 9 ....pending!!!!! The rest......don't know where they are.....but will keep trying! Even if theres only the family there it will be a great night cos they're all musical....... I hope he appreciates the effort I'm going to!!! And a good night will be had by all....I hope! Stel.xx plodding on with the searching!!!! AND.......I hope he'll love it too!

I have quite a while until i am 40 but my mum turned 40 the year before last and she had a big party. In fact it was a joint party with her friend who was 40 the day before. I contacted all her old buddies from school etc and her present friends and asked them to send me photos and a little note for my mum and i put together a book for her, bought her a big bouquet of flowers and gave a speech in front of everyone about why she is such a great mum. She was over the moon she had a great time xx

Oh Nell! The bug has really got you! I'm not 40 yet but think I'd like a party with all my friends. (Secretly thinking a week/end away doing family history for my 50th sounds like a good idea~shrugs~)

I can't remember - think husband took me out for a special meal. 45th birthday I had an all-female party, and my husband and sons were the waiters. Next big one my sons say I have to go go-karting. I wouldn't mind, but its more their treat than mine! I'd very sadly like to go away on my own and do some family history research! nell
