CB - You have not seen my mother... if I age like her then I shall definitely be having every nip/tuck/etc going! Growing old gracefully..... screw that! I want to look attractive not graceful!! lol becx

Bec, my love, you won't need a facelift at 40! I've been saving for one since I was 45, and I still can't afford one! Mind you, I don't think I shall bother now that all the other bits have caught up with the face. I can't afford to employ Otis to have it all lifted!!! LOL CB >|< XX

CB - RESPECT! I will probably have a massive p*** up (no doubt plenty of GRers will be involved, won't name names but they know who they are!) and then book in for a facelift amongst other plastic surgery procedures.... unless they have invented something else by then... love becx (not 40 for another 18 years)

For my 40th, we took 14 friends out for dinner at my husband's company sports & social club at Teddington Lock, then most of them came back to our house to play silly games and got drunk. For my husband's 40th, I invited all his friends (and a few of mine) and gave him a surprise party. I did a choice of four different dinner menus - Chinese, Italian, Indian and TexMex, so that guests could choose which they preferred. All went well until one guy decided to have four main courses - one of each! (Got my own back at his Silver Wedding party by downing 3 bottles of champagne all on my own.) CB >|<

Had a weekend away in a very smart hotel just outside of Cheltenham. It was the first time we had gone away without the kids, and everyone said don't do it, you'll end up rowing. Friday, wonderful day, Birthday rowed most of the day, Sunday, wonderful day. So if you have never been away without the kids I wouldn't advise you do it for your 40th. This reminds me of an odd gift I was given for my 40th, I'll start a thread. Josie

The year I was 40 we had moved into a lovely old house and had it renovated. So we had a joint 40th/housewarming/end of builders/Halloween party. Friends of ours secretly planned to marry the same day so we were invited, together with all their guests, a couple of days beforehand and told to come in our Halloween fancy dress to the Town Hall. The groom was Frankenstein and the bride was...bride of Frankenstein ... complete with blood, bolts through the neck and everything. Their 3 children were dressed as werewolves! The Registrar did a valiant job! We walked down the high street to the reception then moved on to my party. Bride and groom crawled off in the small hours and left us all to it. Can't wait to hit 50 and see what develops!

I didn't really want a party, I wanted to make the celebrations last a bit longer lol. A few weeks before my birthday, we went to Disneyland Paris with my newly-discovered brother and his family - it was fantastic! The following weekend, we took my parents and spent a lovely weekend at a hotel in Devon. On the actual day itself (working in school I couldn't take time off), I put on a buffet lunch for all the staff, and that was great as well. I've got loads of lovely memories. Now what shall I do for my 50th? Nine years to think about it lol! Mandy :)

It was beautiful Summer's day and we had a family BBQ 'round my mums, from midday to late at night. Got totally smashed on Pimms and Champagne. Had a wonderful time! Dave & I went out for a meal the night before, and he had arranged for my neice to pop 'round the night before and decorate the outside of the house with banners and balloons, telling all the neighbours that I was 40. I opened my cards in bed and Dave said he'd put them up downstairs, while I got dressed. When I got downstairs he'd put them all facing outwards into the street, so nobody missed the fact I was 40! Still I'll get my own back next year - he'll be 50! Jan

My big brother was 40 last week, and he went and got his 1st tattoo done. I howled with laughter ...... asked him if he was having a mid life crisis ?? :~D Bless 'im! I love the idea of a romantic long weekend in Paris or Rome. I've got 5 years yet though so I'll be able to save up at least. XX Sioux
