Whilst I'm quite willing to say that I normally see beauty as a visual thing (hey, I'm a bloke, I'm allowed to be shallow)... beauty does of course come from within too. I was just having a discussion with someone about a member of this site who I haven't met yet, but who I KNOW is lovely, regardless of appearance (and no I won't embarrass the lady by naming her)

Beauty is something beyond us,something created that we as humans, have not altered ,corrupted, copied or mimicked, the original form, the primary source, the product of a natural plan. We get into trouble when we start to talk about aesthetics, which is really just mans interpretation. Look at a pineapple, and note the pattern of the skin-a pattern that later turns up in mathematical discovery-we congratulate ourselves for discovering thispattern, but it was there all along in nature.Beauty doesnt have to be pretty,it can just be something that can never be bettered or changed or improved, something that works best in its purest or simplest form. Look at the pattern of a snowflake-for centuries weve tried to excell in lacemaking, pattern designing,art,draughtsmanship-it was already there-the master design templates of nature.

A beautiful person, to me, is someone who thinks of others! is someone who has the ability to touch somebody elses life, less fortunate, and make a difference. A person who can make someone else feel beautiful.

being shallow i think my daughter my son and my chick are beautiful. a bit deeper and i think that when you see an elderly couple who have obviously been together for ever and they still hold hands walking along the beach, thats pretty special.

Thank you Roxanne I am glad my comments made sense to someone as I was having difficulty saying what I was thinking. My wonderful great Aunt when she died early this year in her 90's was beautiful and she lived a very hard life as a young woman, like so many others of her generation war and such like, but she never became bitter or ugly inside, later she had a good relaxing retirement but had no husband to share it with he died within a year of retiring, very hard on her but, inwardly she was beautiful, she had such love and care you just cannot buy that its there or it isn't. She didn't wear make up, she never bothered about looks, like me really, but she knew beauty and taught me that lesson, beauty is only skin deep, but it is the in the eye of the beholder, we cannot better natures beauty. :-))) Pat x

Hi Bryan This one is so easy. My definition of BEAUTY are my Grandchildren. They are the most beautiful thing that has happened to me in recent years. I get unconditional love from them and that to me is the most beautiful thing in the world. Of course I'm very biased they are beautiful looking too lol. Its great being a Grandma. Have a nice Day Regards Jackie

Anyone remember the song - Everything is Beautiful, In It's Own Way? There is beauty in everything if you just look for it, and as far as people are concerned though, I do think that 'real' beauty comes from within. Cultural definitions of 'prettiness' and 'goodlookingness' vary and change all the time, but internal 'beauty' shines through across all cultures, centuries and ages.

I have often been told how beautiful my daughter is by friends and aqaintances and my reply is I'm her mother and of course I think she is beautiful but her inner beauty is more important and I believe that this is the glow she excudes which makes her physical beauty even more noticeable , she is an absolute treasure and the most caring, kind and levelheaded person I know and I often wonder what I have done to deserve her , Lara

Yes Bryan I think that is a very true saying. Karen I didn't mean sizewise I meant in looks, we are all supposed to strive for what the media call the perfect look. Its nothing to do with beauty just pleasant on the eyes all that stuff. Pat x

i'me off to bed now,as i'me working tomorrow. so,what is beautiful?....we all agree, that nature is,a new born baby,an inner feeling, that the eye cant see,but the heart can. maybe beautiful...as beauty,is in the eye of the beholder. bryan.

I tend to agree with Elaine here really it does come from within, and so they say 'Beauty is Only Skin Deep' but it isnt is it? I think 'Beauty is in The eye of The Beholder' is more near the Truth, Beauty is everything and we all see it in many different ways and that is life! Dave

Pat Report 15 Aug 2005 00:39

Loads and loads of stuff too many for me to name really. But certainly not the false lack lustre love of false beauty we have to contend with in the media and we are all supposed to chasing, the sort of thing that is surface beauty but has a very ugly side. Nature itself is far more beautiful. Pat x
