Well spotted Joe. Anybody would have thought we have had to pay extra for this new FREE addition judging by the moaning going on. There are no pleasing some. Would one prefer not to have the service at all, or have the service with its hiccups....and the success in the matches that its creating . As Fred said Give 'em a chance. Elaine x

Well people ,i see a lot of frustration in regard to this thread, but ,it is a new addition, and it will take a while to get running properly ,so ,let's give it a chance eh? before we start slating the people who are running this show. To me,despite problems it's giving me as well ,it shows a lot of promise .Fred.PtfA&G&G&S.

Well since i've had NONE since I joined, i would have thought there would have been some by now! And since ive added nearly 400 names in the last fortnight, i would have thought one would have been nice!

Paul, add me to the petition, I have had the same hot matches for atleast 3 weeks, and I know that some of the trees have been altered since then as they belong to relatives and I was preasent when they were altered. Also I have 38 matches with one of these trees belonging to a cousin while my cousin has only 21 matches with my tree. It doesn't add up!

Tammy Report 20 Oct 2005 17:57

I have checked today and I haven't got any hot matches at all - I know there are some new ones since the last hot matches (which I deleted). So where are my new ones please???? Tammy

Paul Report 20 Oct 2005 16:39

Elaine - When it says on there it will be updated every 14 days, guess what? I expect it to be updated every 14 days regardless of how many members there are!

I had my hot matches through today, some will not receive any because there are no new hot matches for their entries. I had a reasonable list the first time but this time only three hot matches, none of which actually do match lol xxhugxx

I just take the attitude that it is something we didn't originally have, or for the majority of us, expect to have when we joined. Take it as a bonus not as something else to moan about. Its not as if its a tool which is stopping you searching in the more conventional way. And remember Genes have millions of members to attend to, so don't expect them to sort out every ones matches in the same second. Elaine x

Got my first two matches, one confirmed and one waiting a reply, from the latest update. But it is very much a scattergun approach. With 600+ names on here it's ultimately going to take days of work to eliminate the 'duds'.

Paul To be honest I've never seen the point of hot matches - you can find them yourself if you take the time anyway or am I missing something? Debby

I had about 20 new matches. but one of these is a definate match for me.(hooray !!! ) A good tip when weeding out the ones which you dont want. go to your list click on the First match, veiw details Press back button back to list If no good, tick the box at the end. go to next match, remembering to use back button back to the list to either look at the next one, or tick the box if no good. When you have a lot ticked, press save. It will take you back to homepage so then click on your hotmatches to bring yourself back to the page you want. The deleted matches will be gone leaving the rest, carry on doing this until you have deleted all you dont want. Its much easier than doing it individually.

I re-uploaded my Tree about 6 weeks ago and waited patiently for Hot matches...Nothing. I emailed GR complaining that I found it unacceptable and guess what? Today I have some. However....... If GR only select your names 100 at a time, it will take years at 100 per fortnight before I am shown all of mine, as I have about 6000 individuals on here and over 1000 different surnames. All blood relatives.

Hi Ann, if you go into 'hidden images'or is it ignored image, at the bottom you will see that they have been saved not deleted. The second lot to arrive have something like delete message but when you hit it it appears once again.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Oct 2005 14:20

If you tick delete, then click on save at the bottom it will delete them. i have just worked through mine, found one that turned out not to be a match and one other possible, deleted all that i wasn't interested in and they have stayed deleted. All i wish is that the matches were in the same birth place or even the same county and at the very least in the same country of birth. other than that it is fun to check and I don't have a problem with them. I'll join your petition. I haven't had a reply to my email Beth :(

Jeanie Report 20 Oct 2005 14:16

I will happly sign your petition. What is GOOD about Hotmatches? I don't think one or two hits make up for five pages of people who live in Australia, Surrey or even worse, no where. I have a whole page of William Evans and the like, with no place of birth. The delete button does not work either. I have contacted them earlier re this. The people who are hits are those who I have contacted before by looking at the names on Name Summary. This could be an excellent tool if it was a proper matching system.
