McAnne's Gahan-Crazy

McAnne's Gahan-Crazy Report 31 Oct 2005 17:29

A big NO from me - never do anymore - too many 'unsavory youths' taking advantage!! I got in at 5.10pm - have taped paper over the glass panels in front door (leads straight to lounge) to block out the light - only have a small lamp on and TV is on very low lol.

Yes I do answer the door, but the kids get choccie bars not money. Find that it keeps the older kids away when word gets around that there is no money! Maggy

Dizzy Lizzy 205090 Report 31 Oct 2005 17:08

No! This is the first year I have put my foot down and told my kids I will not take them Trick ot Treating as they are far too big now for children's games, and after a bit of sulking they have accepted it. I also have put a 'No Trick or Treat' sign at the door. Liz x

Germaine Report 31 Oct 2005 16:59

No haven't done for a few years now. I like it when the little ones come dressed up with their mummy but the last few years it is just kids with a silly mask, not wanting sweeties just money. I used to love it when the little boy over the road used to come he did look cute but now he has grown up. Our Joe came last night as they can't come today. Anyway Derek has gone to bed now (up very early) so they would only wake him up. That is a good idea let him go to the door that would scare the life out of them. Germaine x

Michael Report 31 Oct 2005 16:38

I agree it depends largely on where you live. It's a lot different in smaller villages where everyone knows everyone else than in larger towns. I'd never go out knocking on random doors if I didn't know who lived there or that they didn't have a pumpkin in the window or something. I also agree that Halloween round our way at least has been hijacked by teenagers who use it as an excuse to demand money, not sweets. Frankly, they should be grateful for even that.

No, as i have said before on another thread i do not believe in this form of begging! i never expected neighbours to give my children 'handouts' so i'm certainly not giving theirs!

Definitely not I spend most of my evenings in the back of the house anyway, so will just turn off front lights & take batteries out of door bell. Vivienne

I have bought a bag of sweets, but once those have gone I shall put up my sticker which says no trick or treaters, which I picked up in town this afternoon. Its not that I am a killjoy, but it does get beyond a joke down our road, I don't mind the little kids, but later in the evening the teenagers are usually out in force, thats when I get annoyed. Sue

Michael that's exactly what happens here in my village. We have decorations in the window and pumpkins on the doorstep and any houses which don't are left alone. Daisy

NO. The wheelie bin is across the front gate as it is collected in the morning and the bolt is on the gate. Maureen

No, and I really like Mikes idea - except we don't have a porch light.

Fairy

Fairy Report 31 Oct 2005 16:29

No not after last year. I had a large bowl of chocolate sweets and I told them they could have a couple each and the little pigs grabbed handfuls and ran off. This year I am unplugging the door bell and putting our large black dog in the porch. I don't like hallowen anyway. Jo.
