Kristmas Kracker Karen - I totally agree with you, I didnt join in the other day as some of the replies you received were venomous and I didn't want my day ruined. Children not wrapped up warm can get ill -my youngest has a kidney problem - if she wasn't allowed to wear her coat and subsequently got a kidney infection she could get renal failure!!! What has freezing your bum off got to do with respecting your elders? I asked my sister (who's a teacher, but not a parent) about this, she said that it must be a poor teacher!! Not all teachers are clever (or as clever as they think they are)!!! Last of all, are you going to purchase a blue fleece, coat and gloves for one day? I think not. A blue item and their regular coat should suffice. Please no nasty comments I support my children and their education but childrens welfare comes first. Jacquie |

Jacquie, As I was the person who mentioned respect for elders I take it that I am accused of writing a 'venomous' reply to Karen. I made it clear in my reply to Deanna that I did not think that was the case here and that I was speaking generally. Gwynne |

Our school teachers are the same. They don't encourge the children to put on their coats at break time but they are out in the playground with hat coat gloves and a cup of coffee. My son and a friends son where both off school with a chest infection both have asthma as well went back to school and ened up walking around our village for 1 hour ( both children were 5yrs) they had hat and gloves to put on. I saw them returning no hat, gloves or coat done up. even though the teacher new all this never even attempted to help. they both were off the rest of the week. I think maybe when she has children her attitude may change. |

At the end of the day you dont need to be a teacher to use a bit of common sense! some parents at some of the schools where I worked are just as bad, sending the kids in next to nothing on a freezing cold day. But I would also be angry as a parent of four if the same thing had happened to one of my kids, especially in this freezing weather and like you, had sent them with proper outdoor clothes to wear only to be left outside without it. Kristmas Kracker, I too think it's appauling that a child is expected to go outside without a coat in such cold weather, I wonder how many teachers will be complaining about the absences that may occurr as a result, more than likely because of coughs and colds! Deanna, I know where you are coming from! As a qualified professional counsellor I have worked one to one with a few teachers that have loathed their job. One of them openly admitted her hatred for children she taught. Some of them have said they went into teaching because they liked to be viewed as 'authoritive' which in their own words 'gave them a sence of importance and security'. So hearing the above first hand, I guess not all teachers are in the job because they love children after all! Lib :)) |

I feel I have to reply to this, although I have tried not to! As a trainee TA I must say all the teachers i've worked with so far have been brill, to the kids & myself. I can only speak for myself, but I would never send a child out in such cold weather without a coat, & I love the children in my class already!! I wish i'd done this years ago! Maybe because of my attitude the kids have picked up on this, so I can't get past them in the mornings without them trying to give me a hug & asking 'Are we working with you today Miss?' I can only say those 'bad' teachers don't realise what a lovely feeling they are missing & it's their loss, sadly. :0) Joan xx |
