Bec, you have never lived! so, what are clackers? 2 solid plastic balls with a piece of string between them, Holding the middle of the string, (which had a plastic tab thing knotted there usually) You sort of bounced them together., by sort of bouncing your hand (is this making any sense at all?lol). when you got them going you really gave it some bounce so the clacked together at the bottom and then at the top in turn kind of thing . usually as your slowed sown or if you werent that good at it all they did was bruise your forearm/wrists...and we called it fun!!

I had a pair of clackers - one pink and one green! Remember getting Sindy's horse one Christmas, and roller skates (the lethal ones that strapped to your shoes!)

Granny Report 9 Dec 2005 17:53

I can remember the year I got roller skates. We had plenty of hills roundabout, so it was fun. Can anyone remember getting the apple, orange, nuts and new coins in their stocking, Christmas would not have been Christmas without them. What would kids today think of those. Granny

Debby Report 9 Dec 2005 16:43

Good question Jess! I try to buy my grandaughter a few pressies that I had or would have liked when I was a child. For instance this year I've bought her a space hopper (not the orange one) but a space hopper! I've also bought her a slinky, full set of Beatrix Potter books, some 'special' string to play cats cradle and a ball and ring to put round her ankle - we used to use our mums old tights and a tennis ball! Debby P.S. I've just taken delivery of a personalised jigsaw for my grandaughters baby brother and they've spelt his name wrong so they now have to send me a new one!

I remember my kids having clackers - they would probably be banned now in case they injured somebody! For myself I remember a dolls pram, second hand, a trike with solid wheels (a large one) second hand (we are talking 1940s here. Then my dad made me a super large dolls house with lights that worked fully furnished with walls decorated with wallpaper, carpets etc. I had a farmhouse with (lead) animals, dolls and always an annual, Enid Blyton books Famous Five, Secret Seven and later Abbey Girl books, Katy books, Rupert books, I loved books. (stll do of course). Ann Glos
