I think it is absolutely appauling . They should never have been released in the first place . rehabilated my foot . According to the papers at the time of their release they were always in trouble when they were still in prison . Call that rehabilitation , its shows they have still a violent streak and can't be trusted . Would anyone of us honestly like to have them living next door to us. Cath

Hi, I will not go into the rights or wrong of him being released, however, how can the SS monitor the child properly when most of the people concernerd eg . the childs mother do not even realise the situation they are in ??? Sheila

Mary Bell was allowed out of prison after serving 12 years for killing 2 children when she was 11. The precedent was set 25 years ago so it's hardly a phenomena of the wicked society of today. She too had a child back in the early 1980s. The authorities monitored her, so they are almost certainly watching this baby. Bell never committed another crime and was a good mother, so perhaps this baby has a chance of growing up normally, too.

Rupert, I do not want to argue with you as from your replies we are on opposite sides of the fence on both topics you mention. However, I would point out that the boys that killed Jamie were 10 years old and only children themselves. Would you think it right they should have been hung or shut up in prison for the rest of their lives? Jean.

Yes it is simple. If the government can do something which is against the Church and more than a few million of the population beleive this to be so why when the case was made and proved against the killers of the Bulger child did not the authorites listen to the public at the time they protested. If at the age of ten these boys could have premeditated such a cruel and evil murder I’m sorry but I don’t believe for one minute they should be allowed near any children let a lone to have their own. Julia

I'm with David and Bec on this one. I will not argue that this was a terrible crime but it was committed by children. I was a childminder for many, many years and I have seen the cruelty that children can inflict on one another but that doesn't mean they grow up to be dysfunctional adults. I would think that the 'boys' are still monitored and any signs of criminal behaviour would be spotted. They obviously aren't very anonymous if the media can keep track of them. Jean x.

It is difficult becaue it was such an emotive crime. I tend to agree with david that I don't know enough to be able to judge if they have really been rehabilitated. Theyw ere young when they committed the crime so I suppose it is possible that they could have changed. As a Mother I find it very hard to accept I must admit, but we do put our trust in our lawyers and have to accept the rough with the smooth. However, I have never agreed with anonymity as I fell part of the punishment is people knowing who you are and what you have done. I also object to paying out for it. The problem here is the fact that we have nutters who would feel justified in taking the law into their own hands and that is why we have to have anonymity. Ann Glos

Will try and cut this short. Last year there was a family here and the guy said he had been accused of being one of these killers (was in the local papers) as he had told someone he had been in gaol for fraud in Liverpool and people put 2 and 2 together and accused him. Now whether it was him or not no one will ever know but this person was NOT the sort of person who you would want to live next door to you. The things the neighbours told me about what went on at that house!!!!. The local police seemingly couldn’t go into his records they told someone only the highest of high could. They (the family) disappeared over night. One neighbour said if it wasn’t him then the likeness was uncanny even after all these years. They did have a little one and he beat his wife up one night and it was her that got took away in a police van???. There was certainly something strange going on. I would hate to think that I was living next door to someone like that and have no way of knowing. How do we know they are normal now? Germaine x

Does not this show our system does not work. Such crime as committed by these two can never be forgiven and if the do gooders of this nation can bring in laws to allow gay people rights then there is something radically wrong when killers like these two are shielded from the public and allowed to live ordinary lives. What is this country coming to. No apologies for expressing my opinions. If the law can be made to the detriment of socirty one way then it should be made to work for the good of society in this instance and allowing such trash to foister a baby on an unsuspecting girl is outrageous.
