She'll be fine. I didn't have mine out until I was 28! No ice-cream though. Nowadays you get toast and cereal to get the throad to heal up more quickly. It isn't too bad an op - severe tonsilitis is a lot worse! Jan |

I am sure Becki will be fine Lou, and that you will suffer it far more than she does...the joys of being a mum... lol Both my boys have had theirs out, but at a younger age, and they were fine afterwards, and yes they do make them eat toast after. At our local hospital they can't go home until they have eaten some. Anyway, all the best to you and Becki on the day, and give her a huge Gr hug from all of us. Yvette xxx |

Hi Becki and Lou, I thought I'd let you know my daughter Laura had her tonsils out last year (when she was 17) and I wasn't allowed to stay either, but she really didn't need me. I phoned up first thing next morning to ask how she was and they put me straight through to chat with her, she was fine and came out later that day. It's true they encourage them to eat toast and crisps as soon as possible afterwards (but none with vinegar in) and also citrus fruits and drinks were banned for a couple of days. The worst thing for Laura was not being allowed to mix with her friends for about 10 days after to make sure she didn't pick up any infections. Best thing is she's never had a sore throat since. Good Luck Becki - you'll be fine. Carolyn |

hi lou, it's strange but most people say, that the worst part about staying in hospital,is the smell. i'me sure you have been told, that it's such a simple, quick operation, but that doesn't ease the nerves, does it? when they take her to theatre, pop outside, have a ciggie, walk back in,and they will be wheeling her back out again. best wishes...bryan. |
