Ahh I understand now Pat lol I don't delete my threads/posts, I leave them there for posterity ! Its been suggested before that if we all delete our old threads, the system will run faster. There could be an element of truth in that, but on the other hand there may not, none of us are in a position to comment. If GR's system can't cope with the amount of information on it, then they should archive off the oldest batch of threads periodically, I have enough systems to manage without performing their housekeeping for them :o) (PS, I didn't read all of the above before posting this !!)

B.Belle, if you felt what you said in the first place was from the heart and an honest opinion, then I'd leave it there, if someone disagrees, then you can always discuss it further... Paul

Well thanks to everyone for their contributions. It is interesting the varying ideas. Obviously we agree Paul ;-) we have had this discussion before on General & I am sure it will come round again. I also agree with you CB but only to an extent lol. I actually think GR should do their own tidying or housework whatever you want to call it. It seems to me ridiculous for them to store what becomes useless threads it seems pointeless, I am sure it clogs up their system. We all have our own ideas and we will probably all continue to do what we have always done delete or not to delete. As you say Gwynne we shall agree to disagree no harm in that :-))) Thanks again Pat x

Belle I am sure many people here worry about adding I have often put a message in the box and instead of clicking add message I have deleted because I have been worried it will be taken thew wrong way. After saying that we can't be forever deleting or not adding to the threads or not posting because we are that fearful. As Paul says sometimes you feel just go for it and see what happens :-) Thank you for adding here :-) Pat x

I have deleted 3 threads I think, one because I thought I had upset someone and so terminated a party. One cos someone said something on my fun thread that could have caused someone else personal problems on board and their outside life, if what had been said was taken as a serious comment. Last night because I stated the thread would be there till 12pm, and then deleted so if anyone had any bone to pick it was now or shut up. Other than that never really gave it much thought, and still can't copy and paste doh! XX

Hi Lemon Just to say I am not talking about deleting your OWN threads, it's comments on other people's threads I mean. GR always deleted whole threads but this may have changed as the last couple of days it seems they have deleted parts of them instead ??? that has never happened before :-( All this came about because I read on another thread that people actually delete comments made on other peoples threads and not just their own threads I was thinking it would take me months to remove all the comments I have made on this board as I have never deleted very old stuff so there must be thousands :-((( More importantly I see no reason to even try to delete them at this stage, let GR do it if they want. I agree with Gwynne. Once a month or so I have a big clear out and delte everything that is past it's sell by date or where I am no longer interested in the subject. This leaves me with those threads I do wish to keep in contact with through 'Your Replies' Just a bit of practical housekeeping.

Pat Report 5 Jan 2006 18:45

But Peter if people delete stuff doesn't the threads look disjointed and what you added seem out of place? Pat x

Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 5 Jan 2006 20:32

Hi As Guinevere has pointed out about quizzes. I quite agree. I delete my threads on any quizes I post eventually and wouldn't expect anyone to not delete their replies on those types of threads. There are topics on the weather, what's for tea etc etc. Who wants to keep that sort of stuff. No one (is there?). On the other hand, there are many topics which have been discussed on here and some of these have been full of good information on a subject which someone in the future might find really useful. They then go to find it and it ends up useless because there are lots of gaps in it where people have deleted their postings. Thus the thread is useless because its so disjointed. Just my opinion. Everyone is a free agent to do as he or she pleases. In the end its up to GR to decide how they archive threads. Cheers

Oh! Flipping Heck! - As the originator of a 'Silly Question'! I can assure you Pat I have no ulterior motive for doing so apart from the pages getting longer and not being very knowledgable about puters I just thought it might be a good idea to delete so therefore I asked, to make sure, that I would not delete anyones thread, then when the feedback came I realised (I know I'm a bit slow) how it would spoil the threads and said so there and then. Pat Report 5 Jan 2006 21:29

Gwynne you could leave the easy quizzes to me :-))) Didn't know you did that Lynda I agree about the dozy ones who cause problems & what is worse is when others get dragged in on it and then the wrong people get the blame. :-( Cheers Kim I never bother going back on old threads for the very reasons you have just said which i also have said here. Thanks Pat x

Aileen I reckon you nearly blew the system at one time :-) I still blame you for me getting booted so often lol. Norah there are no worries as this thread has proved as well as your own we are a mixed bunch and you are not out of step as many others do exactly what you do. so at least you are not all on your own, thanks for putting your question up as its something i am intriqued by I added to your thread also. :-) Keep trying Gwynne the good stuff must be there somewhere because I'm lazy and never delete mine LOL Thanks again all Pat x
