Paul - well done - sounds like you handled it very well! In your position, don't see that you had much choice but to broach the subject - at the end of the day, you have to consider the needs and concerns of ALL your staff, and if something like that is having a negative effect, it has to be dealt with. We used to have a guy at work with a serious BO problem - and he often smelt and looked 'dirty' .............. due it seems more to laziness than anything medical. He would turn up day after day in the same old jumper and look mankier as the week wore on. And of course summer was even worse, you could always tell if he had been in a room :O(( Eventually everyone complained so much, that when even 'pointed' comments within his earshot had no effect (nor the constant spraying of air freshener) that the manager spoke to him .............. fresh as a rose from then on :O)) |

way to go Paul, hope this will solve the problem for you. I to had a problem once with halitosis, to make matters worse I have no sence of smell, not a good combo. Hubby let me know as kindly as he could. As a friend had the same problem and she was diabetic thought good idea I get checked. Sure enough Dr. said I was borderline and needed to watch my diet. Now watch what I eat and take extra care in the dental hygene dept. Dave, I for one was not offened, huddy told me I could have knocked an elephant dead in his tracks when I was bad. lol |

Paul, I do admire you I think I would just have put up with it rather than upset her, but I realise thats why you are management and Im not. Poor woman though, I bet she went home and had a good cry. I have to say my husband had terrible hallitosis once, but you can tell a family member cant you. He went to the dentist and found out it was a leaking abscess - yucky. But he was glad I told him as he didnt know at all. |

Hard one Paul .i would buy her rectardex and i think she will get the message.LOl.No seriously she probebly doesn't know.halitosis can be caused by dental problems like plaque buildup or something that she is eating.don't know how you can tell her but i think it has to be done.i know my old boss had the same problem with a memebr of staff i used to work with but it was body odour.he did take her to one side and did say to her that a few of the staff have commented on her body odour had she noticed.she said no .so he said from a hygeine point of view she would have to use deodorant.after that she did.she was om about itxxxxxxxxx(((: |

she wasnt aware that it was as bad as it was. she said sometimes she has onions for lunch but i said it isnt oniony its just minging. obviously i didnt use the word minging! i did like people suggested and said it's probably a medical thing thats easily sorted by a hygene expert. i think it was left as well as it could have been anyway. |

so was she aware of the problem herself Paul? Sounds like she took on board what you were saying to her and hopefully there isnt any medical problem with her. |

hi folks im back! lynda and dave please dont fall out. its not that sort of thread! xxx well it actualy went better than i thought it would. she was embarrassed but i think i put in a way that meant i cared about her rather than complaining if you know what i mean. we had a chat about it for 5 minutes and then it was a bit of an atmoshere for a while. but then we changed the subject and it gradually became a bit less strained. i told her she didnt have to come back this afternoon of she didnt want and she has gone home. im going to get one of the girls to go round her house after work and see if she's ok. hope i did the right thing. paul.... |

Too late to give advice as I have only just come online but I would be mortified if a man approached this subject with me if I had that problem, I think I would much prefer a woman, maybe someone who is a friend at work, and even though your idea of taking her to lunch and approaching it that way sounds very thoughtful of you I would still be embarrassed to say the least. Not a nice situation to be in for you so I really do hope it goes ok. Marie |

No Lynda those that know about it control it surely, and I dont think you would have picked anybody else up on it! its only because I said it, but it was a joke take it as one like everybody else does,I dont pull you up on your humour?. Davex |

Its a joke Linda and most people took it that way.Anyway anybody that KNOWS they have halitosis would surely have done something about it? Its only people who dont know they have it that dont! Davex |
