'Part 2 Still on Mums maternal side, I had an Uncle Cyril who was married to a lady named Ada and they had two sons named Cyril and Eric. Ada died when the boys were still tiny and I didn’t know that there were any photos of her at all. In the bag I found a studio portrait of Cyril, Ada and young Cyril as a baby. By sheer coincidence, last Thursday I was out shopping and saw a face that looked vaguely familiar. I overheard someone call her ……….and I realised that it was the baby Cyril’s daughter, who I hadn’t seen since she was a little girl. When I told her about the photograph she was over the moon. She had never seen a photo of her Grandmother, so of course I e-mailed it to her that evening, along with a wedding group photo I had found of her Uncles wedding. This included her Gt. Grandmother and many other family members that she had never seen. Oh, and me as a 6 year old bridesmaid :) There were several other photographs, written on the back, of cousins of my Mum on her paternal side and who they were related to. So I now have loads of clues for the other branch too. Also in the bag were photos of people I don’t know but I am going to see an elderly relative (yes, even older than me lol) soon, to see if she can enlighten me as to who they are. There was a birthday card from my Gt. Grandma to my Grandma – many other, very old birthday cards – some very old postcards including a postcard to my Mum, of the boat that my aunt sailed on when she emigrated to Australia and the date is readable and so many other treasures that there isn’t room to list them. As well as all this, last Wednesday I had an e-mail from a cousin I found on GR, telling me that she had found someone who had been researching the family for many years and she has already sent me details of the family for three generations further back than we had managed to go. She is sending me loads more in the post. To conclude, I had agreed to have a look for a friends tree and had sent for her Grandparents marriage certificate as a present. When it arrived on Thursday, I was able (I believe) to find quite easily both sides on many census, which should give her a very good start and I hardly dare tell you that, in the same post, I received a cheque for £50 from ‘Take a Break’. I had won the mega snap competition in the 1st of December issue. So if anyone noticed that I wasn’t around much for the last 10 days, now you know why lol :)))) Chrissie xx |
