I had put mine down to the fact that I take steriods, but the consultant at the hospital confirmed they are flushes and advised Evening Primrose, been taking it for about two months, but told it takes about three months to start to work. I sometimes feel like I am going to explode and when I am walking round in a t-shirt and everyone else is wrapped up against the cold, I get some funny looks. M. |

A dear friend once told me (while I was in the middle of a really bad one) that I shouldn't call them hot flashes. She said that perception is the key so if you refer to them as 'TROPICAL MOMENTS' and think of a nice warm beach when it's happening they don't seem so bad. SHE LIED. PMSL. Hubby call's them POWER SURGES Deb |

I especially enjoy waking up in the equivalent of a swimming pool no matter what the temperature outside! Oh joy! Daisy |

Roxanne - I've been getting 'monthly' flushes since I was in my 30's............ And now am begining to get some mild 'night sweats' too - but they are cyclical at the moment, but still not very pleasant :O(( Speak to your GP if it gets worse - they will test your hormone levels. I was put on HRT for a while by one GP, but my own checked my results and said I shouldn't have had it because I am still ovulating. |

Think this subject should be taught along side sex education in schools cos although I know my mum went through it and had a pregnancy scare it was all hushed up so I am a bit ignorant as to what I am in for!!!! GLoria |

Sounds like it . I don't take HRT some peple swear by it but my doctor didn't advise it. One thing I find did help is Wild Yam from the health food shop. Comes in tablets takes a week or so to get into the system and don't stop taking it because the flushes stop or they come back. Germaine x |

hi roxanne. here's how i cope with HOT FLUSHES.. buy a hot water bottle and fill it with cold water, put it in the fridge for a few hours so it gets really cold and then place the bottle under your bare feet while your sitting watching t.v. or place it just at your ankles when in bed. this will bring your temperature down and also prevent your feet swelling at the same time. hope this helps. |
