Really Willy, You have been through it, but I'm glad to see you have come through it. They do say that what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. You have the right attitude.......Ever the optimist, like me, Good on yer!!!! You need to have the right frame of mind to get through these challenges in life, that's what got me through when I was ill. That and the thought of my three children. They were only 11, 9, and 18 months old when I got cancer, and certain members of my family had already decided where and to whom they would go should what they thought would be the inevitable happen........but, I was having none of it!!!!! I lived to tell the tale and raise my three children myself with no help from anyone, and although I say it myself.....I don't reckon I did a bad job. And for my reward, I now have seven wonderful grandchildren to keep me happy. Keep on truckin Willy and good luck to you, Lin XX |

I have noticed that many diabetics have a longing forthings that are sweet.I know that I do But i have allways been the same.Id sooner eat my pudding before my dinner,The consoltant at the Nth Middx Hospital Clinic that it was somthing in the mind because you cannot have then you want I used to have at least two spoons of sugar in tea but now if I taste sugar it makes me feel ill I can eat stewed Rhubarb without any sweeteners but I still seem to want chocolate so I buy a slab of the Dark stuff and have a square today and another tomorrow But only now and again naughty but nice but thats Moderation .Most of what I have read is good advice.but in time you will sort yourself out everybodys diabeties is a little different from another persons my eye sight tells me when Im a little High as I can no longer read a numberplate of a car at 100 ft Car drivers are required to read at 75 ft Then I am careful and watch what I eat for a couple of days Bill |

Oh that old maxim of it 'being in the mind' Bill, I have lost track of how many times I've had that said to me. I think when you have gone through so much in the way of illness, and then had to deprive yourself (for your own good of course) of so many things in life, of course it's going to be 'in the mind.' Nevertheless, moderation in all things is a good way to live one's life. I think I have my situation under control anyway Bill, at least that's what I am always told at Kings hospital. I'm due for my yearly check up next Wednesday (1st Feb), so i'll be getting my eyes, feet and everything else checked then. They appear to be happy with me, always say I have good control of my blood/glucose levels. Last year I was told I was their star patient......they had not seen such good control for a long time. Nevertheless, I still get very apprehensive and somewhat nervous a few days before........I can feel it starting to build up now. Still these things have to be faced head on. Last time, they upped my aspirin dosage for the Blood pressure.......so I'm hoping I get away 'scot free' this time. Lin XX |

Hi Alyson, my mum was diagnosed a few months ago. You can buy lots of Glycemic Index books in the shops, smiths have lots at the moment. You may have heard of the GI Diet. Anyway, some have lots of recipes in them too. Ria :) |
