Many thanks for all your good wishes ! Sorted now.... I phoned school at 9 am to say Alex would be absent.... when asked if he was poorly .. i replied 'no. he is scared of coming...' .... she asked if he was being bullied... i said 'yes, by a teacher'.... and informed her that my hubby would be arriving at 1 oclock to see the head teacher.... OUTCOME.... 'naughty book... or 'work book' .. [as the head prefers to call it...[mmm]... has now disapeared, and not up the teachers backside, lol. Ian will no longer sit next to Alex. AND the head was shocked to hear how upset Alex was [mmmmmm ] Anyway, i am going in at 8 am in the morning... with Alex.... she wants to have a word with him, and make sure he is happy about the outcome [ he is exstatic !] Sooooo.... all sorted... without A and E being involved, or hubby being arrested. Plus Alex has now realised that if he has a problem we WILL sort it out for him..... and that is the main thing. Sue xxx [ whos hubby has earned loads of brownie points today !!!! ] |

this is so unfair on your your son. I noticed you say he is dyslexic-so doesnt get to finish his work so gets no smiley face....maybe if you say to the teacher 'try to think how he feels, he tries his best and still gets no smiley face' its completely bang out of order. And tell the teacher that next time this ian does something, as the teacher is no help at all YOU have given your son permission to go straight to the head and inform them, and if they have a problem they can phone you or hubby AND they can also contact the parents of the other boy while they are at it! xxx |

Sorry your lad is having so much hassle. Aren't there some special coloured sheets that dyslexic people can read through which make the letters look right to them. i may be wrong but I am sure I read about them and assumed anyone classed as dyslexic would be tested with them and the right one found to help. No good one to one teaching if the rest of the 'package' is not in place. |

Sue, I don't know what you and the school have tried but if you haven't already tried coloured paper or coloured plastic over the page Alex is looking at, I would suggest you try it. If that helps a bit, it may be worth getting him assessed for glasses with coloured lenses, they might not help but they may help alot. I find anything other than white easier to read, but I'm lucky that I can cope reading black on white, even if I end up with eye strain occationally. The BDA have some info on coloured glasses and overlays, and google produce quite a bit too. http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/extra360p.html Best of luck tomorrow and let us all know how it goes. I hate the thought of any child going though what I did at school but unfortunatly I know that until teachers reconise dyslexia and make allowences, so many children will continue to struggle. |

That's disgusting Anne!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe that there are some bad teachers around!!!!! And before I go to bed (which I must, now lol!) to anyone who doesn't believe dyslexia exists then I challenge them to sit with a child that struggles with their work first before they 'judge' them, & remember a lot of these kids aren't getting the one-to-one they deserve/need cos this government doesn't give schools the money they need to give them the extra time & attention they need!!!! Right, now i've put the worl to rights, i'm off !!! lol Night folks! :0) Joan xxx |

Hi Lunar, Alex's dyslexia was picked up very early... he was about 6. He still cannot read or write very well..... but is 'too' bright in other ways !!!! He gets 1 to 1 teaching every day, not that it seems to help much.... he simply cannot 'see' the letters... the worst thing is that he wants to go to the same school as his brothers, but that is totally out of the question . It is sooooo frustrating.... I must admit though.... reading what you have typed tonight has helped.... well done... i do realise how hard you must have worked to get where you have babe ! It has given me some hope for Alex ! Sue xxx |
