As we speak, I'm sitting here with my Canada sweatshirt on with a big maple leaf on the front. Great country you have. We loved it. Even so a black bear on the Trans Canada highway. |

Hi Fitz, Flakey and Vonny you snuck in while I was typing! Vonny I can't seem to do the bargaining bit either, too used to just accepting the ticketed price I guess. What was your conference for? (you probably told us - but you know how we waffle and I'm having a craft moment) jarra |

Wot do ya mean we do ALL the Waffling....lol Arvo all Just left the casino. After much laughing, talking, eating and hugs we finally bid farewell to each other. We had a great time...SuzyQ & Neville, Anna & Chris, Donna and her sister Gina, Little Duck, Jill Jill and little old me. Everyone took lots of pickles so you will all receive them within a few days. Our behaviour was beyond reproach and worthy of the Wattle Club. Jill presented all the ladies with a small, hand made sprig of Wattle........a very thoughtful gift. I'm off now to do some window shopping at Pac Fair then home with Mark when he finishes work. I'll see you all tonight. lots of love Trifley X |

The trip to Chiang Mai - Thailand. Started out just after 1am to pick up my friends and left at 2.30 to drive to Sydney. Had a good clear run and all went well. Plane departed a bit late and we went straight over the Blue Mts and a straight line over Katherine and just the tip of Indonesia. I had a window seat so was fascinated by the view of the 'outback' it's BIG and red and the treelines following the watercourses look like varicose veins across the country. A very bad case of varicose veins!! lots of claypans and rocks too. Had only 30 mins to change-over at Singapore then on to Chiang Mai. Arrived at 5pm and caught a taxi to our hotel and met up with the rest of the group. I promptly went to bed while the rest went out and had dinner. Spent the next 7 days in the conference room which was an interesting experience as they all spoke Korean but two of the women took turns to translate for me. We had two afternoons off, and on one of these, another Aussie couple were present so I went to the Night Bazzar with them and just looked at what went on. The Koreans are into shopping in a big way so any spare time was spent at an enormous Plaza near the airport. I got to know it quite well :) I eventually bought some hand woven cotton scarves for my girls (at roughly $4.50 each aust) from the Northern Hill tribes store. And I 'borrowed' one of the Korean men and he went to the night bazzar with me on Saturday and bargained for some T-shirts for my men. I bought my grand-daughter a lovely ethnic dress and two adorable T-shirts but I was by myself that time and didn't bargain well. Coming home grew to nightmare proportions as a delayed plane caused a missed connection at Singapore and that dominoed down the line. Was very grateful to finally get home on midnight Monday. I would recommend Chiang-Mai as a holiday destination. It's a very semi-rural setting and not a lot of touristy hype although I think that is changing. I was very surprised at the number of middle-eastern tourists staying at our hotel. The Thai people are lovely and very polite and friendly, a smile goes a long way. Their national saying is 'smile all the time'. They are also celebrating the 60 year rule of their king this month and his picture is every where. Some things are much cheaper than in Australia and other things are about the same price. Food can be very cheap. And even tourist resturants are not dear. Chemist items were also cheap, clothes, especially western style clothes could be the same price as here. The bazzars are the places to shop if you like bargaining. Next time I want to take Laurie with me so she can bargain!!! Vonny |

Nice to hear from you Maureen and welcome to the nicest thread on the boards. Contrary to what everyone will tell you, I am completely sane. The others just need medicating every now and then to keep them in line, lol. Keep an eye out for Queen Trifley. She has 7 Nubian brothers at her beck and call and sometimes parties on the Royal Barge. And when I say party, I mean PARTY! We'll be able to hear that lot today down here on the Central Tablelands of NSW, pmsl Lew Lew, MD, PhD, etc., etc., etc. |
