Poor lad. Well, at least we all know now. Did anyone get the birth certificates of the 'brothers' to ascertain parentage? (Yes, I know, I'm nosey!) Carole

Well done Valerie - I was really interested to know how he really died as well. I had Scarletina when I was about 14 - obviously a very mild form - and never realised that it used to be so serious - I just new I felt unwell and my face swelled up and was very uncomfortable. It's a shame these programmes have to do so much guess work - it wouldn't have been that hard for them to find out the truth surely? Thanks Kaye x

Thanks very much for satisfying everybody's curiosity, Valerie. I seem to remember that the programme-makers kind of pushed Jane Horrocks in the direction of getting general information about causes of death in that era rather than the death certificate, and as she was a 'newb' to this I don't think you can blame her for doing what she was told. But I am glad to know the actual reason. Kate.

your right Merry they tried to blame it on the Potato famine didnt they, I think that result was probably more interesting than the exact cause of death maybe????

On the TV prog they said he had died of malnutrition didn't they?? Any child, healthy or not, could have died of Scarlet fever....... Not saying he wasn't sickly before, but why were they trying to make the story something more than what the truth might have been?? Or have I got it wrong?? Merry

Jayvee I got some stick for even sending for the death cert in the first place, but like you I too kept upset about people I never even knew, but sometimes wish I had known.
