If they are using their mobile phone whilst driving they should be banned. Texting or using the phone whilst stationary in a traffic jam should be allowed. Viv |

Can someone guide me in the right direction please? Why is it those guy's and female's in Merc's, Prorche, BMW's etc, who paid or someone has paid, thousands for those cars but THEY CAN'T AFFORD A HANDS FREE KIT! I bought mine for £15, ok you have to plug it into the cigarette lighter, but what the hell! And diversing here sorry 'BABY ON BOARD' signs, does that mean 'I am watching the kids and not the traffic'! Kim |

I ride a tall motorbike - Eqan McGregor style Long Way Round. You would not believe the things I see looking into cars as I filter past. Mobile phones? Nah, nothing. 1 Try the guy with the laptop on his legs, mouse on the passenger seat. 2 Yellow pages open against the steering wheel. 3 Fold out map in use. 4 Sexual acts including...well only the driver's head visible through the windows. 5 One of the best a woman - no seat belt - changing a nappy, baby in her lap face down. I over took - just - at about 85 mph so she must have been doing 80-83 mph. Personally I would ban them immediately for at least 5 years and make them re-test annually. Nige - considerate biker (most of the time) |

A few months ago I saw a driver of a 16 wheeler actually with a map on the steering wheel, mobile phone in one hand and drinking from a can when driving round a roundabout and on to a small village street,Just wish the police had been there to see how dangerous this guys driving was. I just couldn't believe what I saw and of course he nearly came on the pavement because he wasn't concentrating on his driving. Sue |

I often see some quite dodgy driving from people , of both sexes, using mobile phones. However, I'm not convinced that it merited a specific offence all of its own. I also see people eating, drinking, reading, shaving, hair brushing and setting fire to leaves rolled up in paper and sticking it in their mouth whilst driving. |

Haven't seen all the replies yet (only read Page 1) and I'm with Joy and Joan here. I also have to say they're potential killers. Yes, I'm being dramatic maybe, but it's a matter of fact. :-(( |

Selfish and completely oblivious to the danger to others and themselves. I see several drivers every single day in normal and fast moving traffic using one hand to drive and one to hold their phone or, even worse compose and send a text! Corners are taken erratically and road positioning is horrific. I'd like to see such drivers penalised properly for this. I have enough trouble sending a text whilst walking so to even think of doing it whilst in control of a moving vehicle is astounding. I know it's still illegal in stationary traffic but that's not quite the same is it and I think the penalties shouldn't apply. Some roads become so gridlocked that they are effectively car parks and sending a text or making a call to say you are going to be very delayed in these conditions is hardly the same as doing the same whilst on the move, even if the engine is running. Daisy - now off to brave the school run! |

I was driving behind a stupid woman at around 5.30 in the evening when the roads are very busy. She was driving with one hand on the wheel and holding a mobil with the other in a very large overpowering 4x4 and in the back of the car it was stuffed to capacity with kids. No indications, overtook parked cars giving a 20 foot wide berth in doing so scaring the living daylights out of the on coming traffic. Stopped dead when she decided that this was where she wanted to drop the kids off holding all the traffic up, off loaded the kids got back into the car and drove of, and still she was talking on the blasted mobile. Totally irresponsible not only for the children in her car but also to fellow drivers - should be tarred and feathered. Lin |

Margaret, Know exactly what your saying, I'm under enough fire from my kids just coming on the computer and tying the phone up, without people wanting to get at me 24/7...G*d forbid!!!!! That's why BT's coming, so I can go over to Broadband and keep the line free. I just can't understand anyone who can't live their lives without being hooked up to a phone............What's it all about??? O.K, o.k, I know it's today's generation but by the time they get in bed at night it's a wonder their jaws have not dropped off!!!! lol Lin xx |

A few months ago I saw a driver using his mobile whilst driving along, fortunatly so did two policeman on foot. He turned into a dead end side road a few yards up the road and the policeman ran after him. By the time I walked past they were speaking to him by his car - good for them! Maybe they should be banning other forms of driver distraction - smoking, shaving, gossiping etc (!) Then that still leaves children......! |

I didn't think anyone had been done but about 50,000 tickets have been issued. A £30 fine is ridiculous but this year it will be £80 and three points. Not before time these people should not be on the road. Maz you will be convicted even if stuck in traffic so don't do it. Bob |

Well Jean you do surprise me, my phones definately on it's way out then. There' nothing natural about putting a phone to your ear and having your ear heat up and become painful in less than two or three minutes.......and no! I'm not exagerating either!!!! I've got BT coming next week to put an extra connection in for me, so I think I'll treat myself to a lovely granny phone you know, the ones with the big buttons, that you can't miss! lol. Lin xx |
