Gloss painted brickwork in the classrooms, - I can see it now in my mind....It was a dull sludge green at the bottom, one brick width of black gloss topped by dark cream. We had cast iron boilers in most classrooms in the junior school but at least one room had an open fire surrounded by a nursery fireguard. ...Wouldn't pass health and safety checks nowadays. Thursdays meant ... Art lesson. We had a small piece of paper, an old tin of water colour paints to share one between 2, an old paste jar of water pushed into the inkwell, ( ink having been collected by the 'Ink Monitor) and that was it. We were given a subject, no guidance and we just got on with it. ..... Before being returned, the ink pots would be topped up, the ink getting thinner by the addition of water at times to ensure that supplies lasted until the end of term. |

1970-1977.. I remember using fountain pens with cartridges at Junior school. We never had to wear uniform. Did PE in Knickers and vest in infants. We used to take it in turns by class to go on the playground apparatus, called the 'Jungle Gym'. Playing 'Whats the time Mr wolf' in the playground and laying on the school field under the shade of the trees during playtimes in a summer that never ended. Looking out of the first floor junior class window (while I should have been working) watching my dear grandad drive down the road to pick me up for lunch. While doing so I could hear the noise of the crass cutting tractor and smell the fresh cut grass on the school field. What happy safe times they were Elaine x |

Harry I remember in my infants school having to have a sleep in the after noon, we all lay on camp beds which I hated as I wasn't tired. Also ink wells at the secondary school, they always got blocked up with blotting paper we took it in turns to be the ink monitor and when it was my turn I always got covered in the stuff - my mother went mad - no washing machines in those days. Good times. Liz |

Memories perhaps of your school-days, mainly how things have changed . The things we did; had to do;etc. As I,m older than most i will simply mention gas-masks; dashing across the school yard to the air-raid shelters; and i was the boy in charge of blotting paper. Happy days |
