I have always had Shetland sheepdogs - they are intelligent, love children and very pretty. My second choice is Border Collies. Stella |

I have had 2 first one Beauty was only 8 when she died in her sleep think she had a blood clot now have Elsa she is 12 such a love. Funny story when one of my dogs had died we were looking for another dog no way would OH have an Alsation in the house. One day he said no dogs around no only German Shepherds says I well get one. My daughter said you realise what you have jsut said Mum can have an Alsation . No he said a Shepherd YES!!!. Anyway wouldn't go back on his word didn't he eat his words when he found how good they are. He loved her to bits and this one too. Germiane x |

Wendy what annoys me is that German Shepherds get such a bad name Oh and if they do good they are German Shepherds and if they do something bad they are Alsations. Germaine x |

Had three yorkies each lived about 15 years they were my babies and yes of course I was obedient when they were around - I always knew when they wanted a walk, a drink or one of my chocolates. DAL |

Depends on your family circumstances really - do you have the room/car/garden for a big dog - how much time can you spend on grooming, walking, vets fees and a lot of people forget - how old and fit are you? If you have a dog that needs a lot of walking and may need lifting when it gets old - will you be up to it then? Little Staffies are great if you are strong and fit but they are terribly strong. Whats your personality like - do you want a fun dog or a quiet lap dog? Id say from my own experience a Labrador is easy going, great with kids, needs miles of walks, lots of grooming otherwise you have hair everywhere all year round, faithful, obedient, quick to learn, prone to putting on weight/arthritis.Mine lived til nearly 16 bless her. My other equal choice is Parson Russell (tall Jack Russell), bright, faithful, loving, protective, fun and very easy to travel with, needs plenty of exercise, grooming, just brushing and twice a year pro job. Very healthy, not a lot of genetic probs - perhaps just poor eyesight as they grow elderly Ive had 2 who both lived to 16 and I know of those who have reached 20 years old. But it really does come down to how much time/room/money you have and also the breeder. Always go to a recognised good breeder - see their other dogs, see the parents - check out their temperaments. |

British Bulldog! They are loveable, good with children, don't need much grooming and oh! so very beautiful. The downside is they are prone to heart conditions and snore something awful. Lindy ;-)) |

My first choice would be a border collie. Fleur is my second, Scout (my angel) died last May age 11. They are hardy, have happy go lucky personalities, are so intelligent they know exactly how far to push you, and do what you ask before you have to ask, live quite a long time and are very handsome dogs. Second choice. My little miniature poodle. Scarlett is my first poodle. Takes no grooming, only a trip to the poodle parlour every 12 weeks and is as mad as a hatter, affectionate and downright gorgeous. Hasten to add, I love them both the same, I am only comparing the breeds !!!!!!!!!!!!! |
