I can see Lindy's point but in 1688 Huguenots who fled France settled in South Africa. My husband is of Huguenot descent. If one cannot count South Africa then neither can one count Australia and New Zealand. There was also a Portugese settlement there earlier than that. To be really picky - just where did the English come from and did the Irish really originate in Scotland? How many people counting English as their origin are descendents of the Normans or the French silkweavers (like me)? Or the Danes - English history is so complex - who can tell where you (and your ancestors) really originated? Our South African cousins would be really upset to be told they are not S.A's as they are 5th generation South Africans |
