The Jazz Singer always has emotional memories for me. It was shown on the coach home from the airport after my son and I had been to Malta - he had just met his dad for the first time at the age of 3 1/2. I sobbed all through the film with my lad on my lap asleep. Lord knows what people thought! Also Ghost, Dr Zhivago and many others I can't recall right now. I am a real crybaby when it comes to sad stories.

Sorry Lee just looked at thread again. Yes it was Jennifer Jones and she was acting the part of a Eurasian named Han Su Yin who was a doctor. So sad, sniff, sniff

Madam X With Lana Turner, she plays the wife of a wealthy man involved in politics, whose mother is against her from the start. They have a son. Husband spends weeks at a time away from them persuing his political career in Washington. She goes astray............his mother buys her off. She disappears from all their lives. Then gets involved with low life until a nosy reporter uncovers her secret and threatens to expose her to the world, and ruin husband and son in process. Many years have passed and son is now a young lawyer. Rather than put them through a scandal, she kills the reporter..... and you've guessed it................her son defends her in court, without ever realising who she is. By now she is so ill anyway, she collapses in court...........son begs her to speak in her own defence, which she wont. Then there is a tender scene at the end of the film where her son asks her if she has children and she replies, yes, I have a son. He asks her how he would feel, if he knew her present predicament? Her husband meanwhile, is sat in the back of the court with his mother...........who both gradually realise who she is. As the verdict comes in, she dies...........Boo Hoo Hoo! Gets me every single time. Also love the film.........'It's my life' with Michael Keaton. That's a real choker. Jen

Hitch. When he takes his girlfriend to Ellis Island and he'd got his mate to open up the Immigration Register where her grandfathers name was, i turned to my husband and said 'your grandad's name must be in one of those books somewhere' and quietly had a snivel to myself. Belle.
