My G.Grandfather Reuben Jones was a Publican at a Public House in Watling Street, Wellington, Shropshire. Sadly on the Census it doesn’t say what the Pub was called!! One of his sons, William Jones, was a Manager of a Wine Vaults in Wrekin Road, Wellington, and from there he went to The Duke of York Inn, Market Street, Oakengates, Shropshire. Thomas, another of Reuben’s sons was a Manager of a Wines & Spirits Vault in High Street, Broseley, Shropshire. Count me in for the pub crawl!!! Jxx

Most of my ancestors ran pubs throughout Kent!!! Doesn't surprise me really. My G Granny ran a pub in Wheeler Street, Maidstone (The Greyhound) and she is featured on a piece of writing they have on the wall stating the history of the pub. Another rellie ran a few pubs in the town centre, finishing at The Star Hotel (which is now a shopping arcade!!). Another an a string of public houses in the Malling area. Julie xx

Found it! (at last!) My GGG Grandfather Thomas Lodder, bn Stour Provost, Dorset ran the Old Dun Cow Pub in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire (1881 census)

My husband's gt gt grandfather Samuel Vine ran The Hambro Arms in Milton Abbas, Dorset, we've stopped there for a drink and later this year are going to stay for a couple of nights - really looking forward to that. A 3 x gt grandfather Richard Williams, ran The Spyway Inn at Askerswell, Dorset, also had a drink there. His great grandfather William Henry Parkins ran The Bowling Green at Elmstead Market, Essex, we had a drink there once but sadly it has now closed down and has been turned into a private home. He also had ancestors who ran The Farriers Arms, Pottergate and The Ostrich Inn, Norwich and also The Kings Head in Hempnall, Norfolk. My only pub landlord was Isaac Walker who ran The Townshend Arms, West Raynham, Norfolk, but looking at all the above it's not surprising that we both enjoy the odd drink or two in a country pub! Ooo Just found out today g.g.g.g. granddad left the Seven Moon & Stars pub in his will to beloved wife, another g.g.g.g. grandfather was an Inn keeper, another had a pub in Surrey, another ran a pub in London, another ran a pub in Suffolk, another g.g.g. uncle was a wine merchant, another ............... At least 7 and counting !! Oh, & OH granddad ran one too !! Um do I get the record ?? lol ;0) Joan (Teetotal but with a twitch)

My grandmother`s brother was the Landlord of The Crown in Pulham Market, Norfolk. Gt Grandfather was listed as a publican on my grandparents marriage but haven`t found a pub for him yet. Always knew I inherited this family weakness from somewhere - LOL!!! Frances

my gt gt grandparents on mums side had a pub in the Longstowe/caxton areas in Cambs but dont know which one. Malc

Carpenter's Arms in Hinxton, Cambs - run by my 3 x gt grandfather Northfield Reynolds (a carpenter believe it or not!) think that was one of those 'front room' ones! His brother was landlord of the Red Lion - fantastic pub over 500 years old, still there, brill food. The Phoenix, India Row, North Street, Poplar - run by my 3 x gt grandfather William Bell around 1850 Maz. XX

I have another one. Gt. grandfather`s brother is listed as an innkeeper in Commercial Rd, Middlesborough on the 1881 census, don`t know the name of the pub though. Anyone in Middlesborough able to help? Frances

nudging this to see how many more pubs I have to visit. Would be fantastic to actually be able to stay in one which our ancestors ran wouldn't it?

My 3 x Great Grandmother ran the Fox and Hounds in Stony Stratford between 1871 and 1881 (at least - I haven't found her in the 1861 yet) and in 1891 she and her husband (who was absent in previous census years) were running an unnamed pub in Winslow.

i often wonder why i like a tipple, this could be the reason - bradleys had the scarborough arms bees had the bee hive hartleys had the elphenat and castle saltmers had the greyhound fryirs had the hope and anchor fryirs had the blue ball and those are just the ones i can think of off the top of my head tina x hic hic!
