♥Betty Boo from Dundee♥ Report 24 May 2006 16:32

Hi I would say move to the Highlands as Polly Anna suggested, best place to bring up kids in the whole of the UK. Betty

I live near Dundee. It's probably not advisable going there since it has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in the whole of Europe! lol :-)

Chances are he'll find us at some point! We have the transport cafe in the Longman Industrial Estate. Hope they get on well - good idea to live on the outskirts, much better than the town itself. Good luck to all of you, Christine

Sorry Folks i haven't been on the boards for a few days! Christine, my sister-in-law hubbys new job is in Inverness but they are looking for a house on the outskirts, its all very much rush rush!

Think you're right there, Jane. Finally got round to reading some of the newspapers before recycling and found a bit about the UHI so looks like it's ok. Agree with you about Fort Augustus, nice place. Our grandson will be brought up near Corpach, nice and quiet there and should be a good place to grow up. Only snag - he'll need to handle a caman!

Jane in the Highlands Report 20 May 2006 17:18

I'm in Fort Augustus and am glad my daughter grew up here, lots of freedom for kids, good school that can take them from Primary 1 to the end of secondary. And for younger children there always seemed plenty for them to do. I think the problems at Inverness College are for the college staff and courses, not the ones run by the UHI, I'm studying with them in Fort William and our tutors seem to be safe - at the moment at least. Woody's Report 20 May 2006 14:37

They're having all sorts of problems with it, Rag Dolly, and the College is fast approaching meltdown. They keep making key staff redundant and cancelling courses. They want to sell present building and build a new super-duper place - only thing is there's no money!! Never mind, we're going to get at least 1 Asda, maybe 2, got only 1 morrisons because they closed other 2 - buildings are disintegrating slowly - and we will soon have a 4th Tesco! They all come here with nice incentives offerred - meantime the small traders are suffering big-style. Support your local small businesses and keep out the 'big boys' as long as you can.

There is a university in the highlands through inverness & lochaber colleges (UHI)but it's not a university as such but it means they can offer you courses which are available in university's etc.think inverness is the head one for up here :-)))) Polly Anna......you're giving me a bad name here!!!! :-)) But seriously......it is a good place to raise children but the only prob i find is they don't have much street savvy like city children do....maybe we are too relaxed up here!!

I'm in Ardersier, Debbie, but stayed in Inverness till last August. Is it the city your sister is moving to or outskirts? We brought up 2 children in Inverness, not too bad back then - and probably still ok - but nothing beats a small village, I was brought up in Skye. Benefits in living in a larger place as well though, but when it comes to further education I think it's a shame there isn't a University in the Highlands. Hope she likes Inverness, Christine

defo here!!! The schools are very small so little un's get more 'one to one' attention from teachers and have really good marks etc.....great friendly place here too everyone know's everyone so children are safe etc....my little sprite was down on the shore one day and was dragged(slight exaggeration on shorty's behalf!!) home by my neighbour who knew he wasn't allowed!!! It's a great wee place!! I grew up where polly anna stays and had fabby time living there have fond memories of tourists that return every year always buying you an icecream(not so much stranger danger back then!!) it prob explains my figure now having all those icecreams as a child!!!
