Aw Glenys, so pleased to hear the latest update on Pepper and well done to your teenagers for devoting so much time to his welfare, bless 'em. Hope it won't be long before he's climbing trees. Cherryxx |

Poor thing, the same happened to one of the cats next door and they we're concerned because, being a back leg, they thought he might struggle. He's fine, still manages to get over the eight foot fence at the end of the garden. He just gets a lot more sympathy and strokes from passers by, which he plays on! He did start getting bullied by another male cat who decided to take over his territory but I sorted it easily ............... with the help of a hose pipe................ :-))))))))))))))))))))))))))) |

Glenys... the same happened to my cat. One of his back legs was smashed in many places... he had the leg amputated. I thought it would slow him down a bit... no such thing. He now lives with my ex-husband and from what I hear is still very lively and he has managed very nicely on three legs for over 7 years now. He can still walk a fence and pounce when called for. So don't worry he will soon be chasing birds!!! Jacquie xxxx |

Thank you again for your replies. Little Man is walking - and trotting! - a lot better now, and seems a bit happier. He's gradually eating and drinking more too, so things are looking up much more, thank goodness. Our two teenaged children have been fantastic, helping to look after him instead of going out in the sunshine. Every now and then we take him out to the back patio in one of those puppy cages, in the shade, and he seems to enjoy the fresh air. He has all he needs in it, but one of us is always with him. Ooh Marion, that joke was terrible! lol Diana - I didn't know Clicquot only had use of three legs; you've probably mentioned it before but I didn't take it in - very easy for me! Cherry - I was given some syringes by the vets on Thursday, but when I came home, Shauna (dau.) told me he'd drunk some more Felix cat milk so in the end didn't need them, but thank you for that. Denise, that was a very encouraging story about your neighbour's cat. Wow, she certainly recovered quickly didn't she! Aww Mags, that poor puss with washing herself! We have to clean Pep down that end at the moment to keep his wound germ-free; I bet he hates my guts for doing that! Chris, hope your cat's fully recovered now. That sounded nasty; thank you for the tip. Well, I've given Pepper lots of hugs from you but not all of them yet; I'll keep at it! x |

Lots of sympathy for your poor cat but I'm sure he will be fine. On a slightly lighter note, one of the lads in the office I used to work in, his cat had to have a leg amputated after tearing ligaments just climbing over a fence. She made a full recovery but he kept us in stitches (excuse the pun) every morning with his accounts of how she was coming to terms with having only 3 legs. The funniest (but touching) story was of her putting her one remaining back leg in the air to wash her 'bits' and looking very surprised and confused when she toppled over backwards and (in his words) seemed to give him and his wife 'an embarrassed smile' She worked out how to do it in the end though! Mags xx |

Just wanted to encourage you with this! My next door neighbour has 3 cats & one had a mystery accident a month ago, which ended with her having to have a back leg removed, after days of trying to save it. Just after the op my neighbours were due to go on holiday; I told them to go & I would nurse the cat. She didn't eat much for 4 days. and slept loads. She had to wear a 'lampshade' collar too. we took a trip to the vets for a check up & he said not to worry about the eating. By the time their week's holiday was up, my friends came back to a happy little cat who couldn't wait to be allowed outside in the sunshine! You may have a difficult few days, but I'm sure it will be worth it. Take care, Denise |

Hello Glenys, So pleased Pepper's back with you all. Don't worry about the other cats possibly ignoring him for the moment. He smells strange to them since he's been at the Vet's and had all the trauma. Just give it a few days and they'll all be loving him again. Gentle strokes and kisses to dear Peps. If you're worried about his fluid intake just get a plastic syringe and gently persuade him to take a few licks as you drop the liquid around his mouth. Believe me, he will take it. Love Cherryxx |

Hello Barbara, and thank you too for yours and Tilly's good wishes! Pepper's now home and very occasionally walks, when he goes over to his litter tray. Poor little mite, the other cats won't go near him at the moment (we have four more, he's the middle one), presumably because of his bald stump. He's not eating very much and hardly drinks, which is worrying, but we're taking him back to the vet tomorrow for a post-operative check-up. Output is very occasional too, but we're more concerned about Input! Last night he slept in our bedroom, and poor love he looked so depressed. But he loves it when we give him cuddles and hugs. Hopefully his brothers and sisters will get used to his missing leg; we make sure to give them attention, too. x |

Blimey Lesley, yours is rather adventurous, eh! I always check in the washing machine now before I turn it on, you never know when they might climb in! lol Ooh Cherry, it doesn't bear thinking about does it, his previous life. Thank goodness you were there to rescue him. You've told me some lovely stories of your pets this evening so I'll leave you all in peace for the time being (have to make sure son goes to bed!). Will update you on Pepper and hope I don't go on too much about him! lol Night night all of you, and thank you all again, Glenys xxxx |

Yes, we think it was Glenys. Maybe he got kicked when he tried to scavenge food from the gutters and bins. It's was a lovely sight to see our eldest unmarried but macho son spoonfeeding him in the early days of Peps new life in England. Even now if a feather drops Peps will become disinterested in his food but he's a hundred percent improved and a more loving dog you couldn't wish to meet. I shouldn't admit to this letting animals on the bed bit but when he stays with hubby and me he sleeps on our bed with the almost 1 year old Louie cat tucked between his front paws. Immediately Louie wakes up Pepper's chasing him (well he is a Pointer) and Louie just loves teasing him! Do let us all know how Pepper is when he comes home, dear little sweetheart. Cherryxx |

Glenys, he's not really that old then. Hopefully he will adapt. I had a cat who didn't meow unless she had something in her mouth like a teatowel, fluffy toy, apron string, sock etc etc We finally taught her to meow when she was older. I'm sending all my best thoughts to pepper (love the name). 7 lives is plenty left. One of our cats must only have a few left. He's been for a spin in the washing machine, sat in the middle of the road in front of all the cars (he's deaf and escaped from the house) jumped from various windows including from the top floor (into a bush), broken various ornaments including my lladro figure, puts his claws into my dad to get his attention, scratches the furniture and the wallpaper. The worse thing is, he does it with a cheeky grin and a sparkle in his eyes. he's so adorable. All out cats are cute and we love them to bits but even when he is naughty, he gets away with it because of his sweet nature. He seems to really connect with everyone. Best of luck, please let us kno how he gets on. x lesley |

Thanks for that web addy Marion; what a find! I've copied and pasted from that. Brilliant! Thank you. Hello Christine, Mandy, Kaye and Diane; thank you too for your good wishes for Pepper. Mandy, thank Alfie and Goldie for him if you wouldn't mind! Ta muchly! And Diane, that's a useful tip too about obesity. Pep's quite a slightly-built little cat, but his long hair fills him out a bit. Can you thank Bert for me please, for that! We'll certainly bear that in mind. Catch you later. x |
