Shirley's right 'mind your own business' and I'm trying to think of the Latin name. We're very lucky here in Eastbourne, it grows as an endemic weed but up country one can pay as much as five quid for a small pot of it. We also have Campanula and Montbretia that grow on every brick wall, crook and cranny. It's absolutely beautiful around town at the moment and all for free! Cherryxx |

Here we are then:- 'Mind-your-own-business or baby’s tears, Soleirolia soleirolii (syn. Helxine soleirolii) is a creeping perennial that bears minute flowers and forms dense, slowly spreading mats of bright green foliage. The thin, fleshy, much-branched stems root as they slowly spread. It is a native of Corsica and Sardinia and is occasionally grown in rock gardens and in greenhouses. It readily colonises crevices in dry stonewalls. However, it can soon get out of control and is a difficult 'weed' to control as it regenerates easily from any small sections of stem over-looked when weeding or hoeing' I think it's beautiful and my friends up country are always pinching bits of it! I would normally agree that mint is too invasive for many garden uses, but in a patio which only has smallish spaces between slabs it is limited on how far it can spread and works extremely well (as is the case in ours). It is also very easy to control in this situation as its easily pulled up and the subtle smell of mint that's been trodden makes it well worth the growing. I definitely wouldn't grow mint in open soil - I always put it in pots even if I then sink them. Angela |

There's a grey/silver creeping plant that's called something like 'Australian Moss' - very attractive and doesn't mind getting trodden on. Thymes, like someone has already said, Oregano is also quite low growing, some Sedums too. Where are you? I'll send you some 'bits' Mags xx |
