Difficult to describe my job really! I commission government solicitors to write/revise laws (the difficult bit is getting them to understand the laws need to work in the real world). I write content for websites, leaflets, manuals and the like and commission/approve designs (the bit I enjoy). I troubleshoot problems from members of the public (very big job in itself that one but I love making a difference to just one person) I manage a couple of very large public sector contracts and smack hands/step in when people aren't pulling their weight (hmm). I spend a lot of time trying to make politicians understand the issues of the real world (impossible, may as well forget it). I also spend a lot of time trying to get different bits of government to talk to each other to make life easier for ordinary people (very difficult but not as impossible as the above). No wonder everyone thinks civil servants sit around drinking tea all day. Angela

I am a nurse in a nursing home. I was working full-time but now am on call if they need me, before that I was a laboratory assistant for Bendix-Westinghouse - airbrakes not washing machines and before that I did a history degree. quite varied really.

I have been my own boss for 18 years, in Transport. Very Very Stresssful use to really enjoy but no longer do as my staff now have far more rights than I do. In fact they now earn more than I do! So I have applied for a job in the big world as a business advisor. I also have an on-line web site which sells Crystals :-) . Love this but sadlydo not sell enough to pay the mortgage. Then if I have any energy left after that I am a Reiki healer. Get bored very easily & always looking for new challenges!

I was a telephonist until I had my eldest child, then worked evenings answering the phones and radio for a vehicle breakdown/recovery company. After 2nd child was born and eldest was at school, I worked part-time (with daughter strapped in her car seat) delivering car parts for a motor factors. When 3rd child was 6 months old I became a registered childminder, a job I loved and did for over 23 years until my youngest grandchild started full time school and I fancied a change! Now I work part-time for another vehicle breakdown/recovery company, answering phones and radio, despatching drivers, doing paperwork - in fact anything that needs doing except driving the trucks - well not often anyway! I also run occasional creches for a local charity. Sue xx

I'm a glass engraver. I sometimes have special pieces of lead crystal blown for me then I add designs to them. One of my recent ones was a bowl with swirls like waves and surf in it and I engraved a body boarder and sea gulls on it for someone keen on the ocean. Sue

I was trying to find a job but I gave up eventually (I scrounge). I concentrate on voluntary work, give up a certain number of hours a week to help out at youth group (girl guides). I'm taking a group of them on holiday in September. This Summer I'm helping the National Trust with conservation projects, big events etc at the stately home not far away from where I live.
