No choice here, we have to, it is an accepted way of life - we have 3 bins, general rubbish, garden waste (grass/cuttings etc) and another for paper/cardboard/plastics etc plus compost bin in back garden. Also the council has inspectors who do spot checks of your bins when they are out for collection to make sure you're not putting anything illegal into the bins. Our Council allows ratepayers 4 free cleanups each year for items such as old fridges, washing machines, furniture etc. You ring them and they tell you when to put them out for pickup. Compulsory recycling was introduced well over 10 yrs ago. Plus I am an Op shop regular, both buying and donating, so I guess I recycle in the full sense. And I fully support recycling - it is a must in our throw away/disposable society. Happy recycling all..... Lyn (Sydney)

Of course - was taught by 'green' parents who made compost heaps and rose petal wine, and picked blackberries and scrumped apples for blackberry/spple pies, and wine/ Dad was always making something out of nothing. I have a weather vane which he made himself, with an aeroplane on the top.......lovely parents......

Well.........after reading this I might be heading for trouble. Our neighbour always has more rubbish than will fit in her bin and always waits for us to put our bin out then quickly comes out and puts one of her bags into our bin. I didnt believe my husband as I am not always here when the bins are emptied but last week I was so i told him not to put it out until the bin men arrived. We waited patiently until we heard the lorry and I stood by our window to see. My husband put out our bin and sure enough as soon as my husband closed the front door the neighbour came out and added a bag to ours...... Now we are to get the recycling boxes within the next few days. And they are to be collected once a fortnight. Somebody on here has said that their bin also now gets emptied once a fortnight........... Are you getting the same picture that I am??????? I dont want to say anything to the neighbour as it seems a petty thing but she cant keep adding rubbish to our bin if we are recycling and the bin gets emptied fortnightly instead of weekly........

No I do not. Too busy doing other things. The local council delivered green wheelie bins to us 2 yrs ago and I refused to have one. They insisted but when i said that it would always remain on the pavement outside and not on my premises, they decided to take it back. If the local council insist on it, then i still will not bother. What can they do?

Little Lost

Little Lost Report 9 Jul 2006 06:12

what do you do with your rubbish then Alan????

Alan

Alan Report 9 Jul 2006 14:57

I just put all of the rubbish in the sack[s] and leave it outside for them to collect. So far they have done this, If they should stop doing this, I will just go five minutes drive and place it in one of the bins they have at the recycling plant. I shred all of my documents etc so there is no way of knowing who its from.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 9 Jul 2006 15:03

yes a blue box for plastics etc and a blue bag where i put all my shredded paper. I,m very meticulous on shredding anything which has our name and address. We have our own box for bottles which we take with us fortnightly when we go shopping and dump in the recycle bins at the shopping centre. We refused the wheelie bin cos its too big for us as we dont have any lawns and got low maintenance gardens back & front . BUt we do recycle any green waste as a bin bag fills up by taking it to the tip on our way out on the weekly shop. We give the guy down the road all our newspapers & magazines cos he collects on behalf of the cubs & we,ve done that since before the council introduced the recycle scheme. I do a clear out to on clothes every so often & these go to the Charity Shops
