I've got these nosy neighbours so I've rigged up an old broom handle and a couple of pieces of wire just to drive them insane - It's probably all over the internet by now ! Lol - sorry couldn't resist !

Roy, It's sounding more feasable by the minute. Son seems to think the pole is metal and is now describing it as looking like one of those scaffolding poles, even the twiddly bit on the end looks similar to those locks they have on them, then there is a domed bit on top of that. The wires (though son thinks thats string) do go upwards at a slight angle................then disappear into the vine around the living room window. We haven't heard any unusual noise or more conversation as such, unless he's got his transmitter, whatever, upstairs? Jen

Jen, you can transmit and receive from all around the world with that type of antenna it is known as a Dipole, if that is what it is, most radio ham’s make their own as that is part of the challenge Roy

Roy, As they're new neighbours, we don't know anything about them yet, other than the fact that the man at least sounds and looks as though he is Italian......... it..might be what your suggesting, could be he is in communication with family abroad, who knows? It looks very makeshift, whatever it is! Jen

Carol, definately not a heater, much too narrow. Don't know whether it's meant to be conducting anything......but why the wires/string? Son suggested it might be a phone line, but theres already a phone line to the house and besides, it's much too low down. Jen

If it is a wires pointing at an angle from the ground, it could be a directional antenna, for transmitting radio signals, is he a radio ham? Some one who talks to people around the world or is into Morse code. Roy

Carol, From where I'm sitting, by my window, it looks like wood, but I suppose it could be metal............eyesight isn't what it used to be lol? It looks exactly like I've described it, with two wires or pieces of string coming from it.......possibly going into the house through the front window.................thought it looked like something he might have rigged up himself. But FOR WHAT? Jen

Was looking out my window yesterday as one does and noticed that my new neighbourer has put some kind of weird contraption in his garden.>>>>>>>>>> We have spent the last 24 hours trying to figure out what on earth it could be...............but we're still flummoxed!>>>>>>> He has stuck it right up against the privet hedge. It is nothing more than a simple wooden pole, almost like a broom handle, which has this odd shaped block around the top, which has a round dome shape on top of that.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> There are what looks like two pieces of string or wire coming from it which appear to lead towards the front window, then disappear into the grape vine?>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> As they are new neighbours, one doesn't wish to appear nosy, and they appear to want to keep themselves to themselves at the moment.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> It is causing us no problems or obstructions, just uncontrollable curiosity, as we have never seen anything like this before! Anyone out there who might want to make an educated guess lol??>>>>>>>>Jen
