Elaine, there's a good double bill of NCIS and what looks a funny on ITV about a bloke proposing to his girlfriend by singing and dancing. :-))

Well, I actually laid in bed last night and thought about this to some extent. I'm really no longer sure if Moderators would help the underlying problem. Yes, Moderators should be able to delete threads that get out of hand and send a warning to the guilty member .... Possibly keeping a log of warnings : 3rd warning and you get suspended for 8 wks ... or something along that line. However, having read the comments about this group / that group / cliques / members disliking some and not others etc etc ... I actually now believe that we will never get rid of the underlying bad feelings that have been created over the last few days/weeks/months .... and its the bad feelings that are continually causing the problems. If the bad feelings stay - so do the problems ... Moderators or no moderators. I think (and I know its impossible ) but IF we were all to say ... forgive, forget and move on ... then we MAY be able to start a fresh and start communicating with each other properly. Genes may then stand a chance of getting back to a normal, happy, healthy place to spend quality time with like minded people... Elaine ;-)

I think we need a moderator, but not anybody whos a member, that would be awful, lets face it we all have our favourite people and we also have those we are not too keen on:-)) I think Ive only had a serious problem once on here which was sorted very quickly, but I find recently this site is in a mess, some people dont know the difference between debate and disagreement to debate and insulting,so those people need to be monitored, also there seems to be a little band of people who take a dislike to someone and instead of just ignoring that person/persons they have a vendetta out against them, thats just not acceptable, if these people cant behave in a civilized manner they should be banned .

*wallows in nostalgia for Utopia* We tried to start it off again but it didn't work second time round. I wouldn't want to be a mod I think it should be someone employed specifically for the purpose. BUT I reserve the right to report anything I see as abusive to abuse and what we need is someone to respond instantly not 5 hours later when a thread has got out of hand. Someone who will read the thread and the reasons why it has been reported and act accordingly. I can't see any similarities to CB - no one here can spend money to give them a bigger or louder say. We do need censorship of a kind. If people are unable to control themselves then we need mods to delete their abuse. On CB, as I understand it, you couldn't be silenced. Here you can by suspension or deletion. The way to control nasties on here is to throw them off and stop them rejoining. Gwynne

Deanna Report 22 Jul 2006 13:18

I'm not sure I like the idea of being censored, but I do agree that we need a moderator to judge after the event. And stop the innocent being penalized whic is what seems to happen too often. Deanna X

hi trish, you asked for general opinions, so here's mine. where has the fun gone? do you remember the wonderful SS UTOPIA, it ran for months, and was always on page one, you didn't have to take part to enjoy it, as i'm sure thousands read it daily, it's the only time i changed my name, i was ' nurse gladys emanuel ' i was reminded the other day, about the hillarious antics of ' sir baz hugo ' and i wrote a thread about it, the goings on between a ' naughty knight ' being chased from one county to another by louise sharpe, and bendy wendy, again, it was on page one for months, and brought so much pleasure to many people. these are just two threads, that readily come to mind, i'm sure we have had many more over the years... so please if you have a good idea for a long-standing fun thread, don't sit on it, lets hear from you...because we need to relax, and have a damn good laugh! bryan.

Colin from Hampshire Report 22 Jul 2006 12:01

Hi Trish, Hi Everyone :):) Colin from Hampshire here. Many of you will know me or know of me, you will hopefully also know that I like to stay a man of peace so hopefully what I write here today will be taken as an ex GR/GC member who has always had a very high regard for this site. Genes Connected as I knew it back then was and could still be the friendliest happiest site that I visited everyday. I still look in on a regular basis, of course I do, I became hooked as many of you are now. Like all of you I too would like to see the return of the happy relaxed site that this once was. Genes for me was my starting point. I have many happy memories of the fun we used to have, the help that was given to myself and will always be grateful to those who made me feel welcome. It saddens me also to see the hurt caused to members, frustration amongst members, members being bullied by others, members in fear of posting or voicing an opinion for fear of responses. I respect some things can not be forgotten or forgiven, I am generally made fully aware of most things in my capacity But I I appeal to you all members and Genes alike to start to work together to bring back the old Genes. Best Wishes Colin From Hampshire.

Yes I think Moderators are a good thing but-------- They would have to be chosen carefully and be impartial. I do think its sad that it has come to this though. People who course trouble thrive on the attention they get by winding people up. The less attention they get the less they will do it. I agree with every thing Lil has said. C x

Gary its just like meeting in your local pub, there are people who go in there who you don't get on with, some you do..but would you get yourself barred from the pub just so you can tell people what you think of them ? I wouldn't or don't you just stay a way from them.. I going to collage and I have one to one with my tutor, but when I did my exam the other week we was in a group, there was 1 women , no matter who was speaking she had to be the vioce to be heard all the time, after 5 mins she got on my wires. So I keep quite , when she spoke to me i just answered YES or NO. She is one oth these who is invovled in group meetings of our community, church group or anything. She must not of found GR yet......note toself dont talk about FT at collage lol...

Gary

Gary Report 22 Jul 2006 10:53

I have wondered what gets you barred, i have as many know had run ins with people and clicks on here in the past, and i am not bothered about upseting anybody, i have personely slated people, some who dont like the truth, i have been very rude to some, all i thought fully deserved it,, but i never swore at people, and always thought no mater how harsh my reply, that it was fair comment, 2 peoples opinnions will always differ, and i was multiple reported to abuse, told that tommorow i would be banned for good, but i can only asume GR thought what i said was fair comment, because i never heard from GR once let alone get suspended, i think GR must think that some are to delicate for their own good on here, and take no notice of people who continualy report people.

Silly Sausage

Silly Sausage Report 22 Jul 2006 10:48

I think if more people acted their age there would be no need for moderators... Yes their is a click on here. So what ! There are people on here who I get on well with and some who I dislike. I have said this before that then I just hit the off/on button and it all goes away. Hayley
