No good worrying about it. If WWIII happens there will be no escape. Look on the bright side... I was born just before 2nd World War... lived through the Cold War, Cuban Missile Crisis, Korean war,'Vietnam, Falklands, etc. etc. (not necessarily in that order lol) and am still here and instead of worrying about the world my daughters live in now worry about the world my grandsons live in. To be honest I think global warming worries me more than anything else these days. Jean x. |

When we think of war we always think of the two World Wars, and most of us really think of WW11 and what it was like then. Surely any war nowadays would bear no relation to the last two, we can't begin to know how things would progress or what would happen so therefore couldn't make plans to evacuate to 'somewhere safe' because there probably wouldn't be anywhere. I agree with Paul, But I can't see the Americans allowing the UN inspectors to remove and destroy their huge arsenal of Nuclear, biological and other WMDs. We know what happens to those who have unlimited Power, they will bully everyone else. |

Paul, I have been a campaigner for nuclear disarmament since the 60s. The trouble is nobody listens until it is too late. Everybody thought we were a load of hippies making a fuss about nothing. Not so I was a mother with 2 young children and my concern was for the world they would be living in. The way I see it now there will never be nuclear disarmament... it is way too late. The best we can hope for now is that all countries will be governed by sensible people....and in my book the Aytollah does not come into that category. He is a religious fanatic and people like him stop at nothing to achieve their aims. That is my fear about Iran having nuclear weapons. Sorry to go on at such length but once I started I couldn''t stop lol. Jean x. |

fair point jean, but do you not agree that we are being hypocrytes by stopping them from building nuclear when we have our own? surely if we scrapped ours we would make more sense? |

Paul..... you are right to be worried but I do not think this is World War III. I believe that this conflict will be confined to the Middle East this time. Countries will draw up on their own side of the lines and the UN will shilly shally about as usual... making noises but carrying no weight. Iran and Syria are not yet capable of mounting full scale war against the West... but Iran in particular will one day be capable. The time to start being concerned is now to make sure that Iran cannot build (I think the correct phrase is) weapons of mass destruction. Jean x. |

do you know what always amazes me, we impose sanctions on countries like iran who say they want nuclear weapons, but not one person on question time or in any forum i have seen has noticed the hypocrisy between that and us updating our trident missile programme. if we keep on behaving like we can make the rules but do our own thing on our own shores, someone is going to rear up and bite us. |
