Yes Paul its easy to get to the first hundred, then it becomes seriously hard work and so time consuming. I never thought it was going to be this hard, they make it look OH so easy on the tele..........................The up side is having fun on this site... Cheers mate...... |

Hi Paul, I'm at a bit of a lull while the LDS is shut for the summer. I had intended visiting a few record offices over the summer but that hasn't been possible. I have been branching out sideways a little and with the help of some kind people on here have worked out the family connection. I can always find something to do and I keep finding new cousins on here which keeps my interest going. Gwynne |

I havent lost interest - but im in a similar boat to Elaine - having small children can make going round church yards and visiting record offices a bit difficult. Did just have a break through though and found a cousin - think 3rd cousin - all the way in New Zealand by way of posting on records page and asking for help. So it just goes to show that the tree never really ends but grows new branches every day !!!!!! |

I know what you mean Paul. As you know, my Mum's side are Smiths and my Dad's are Robinsons, mostly based in London and now that I'm well into the 1700s it's proving really difficult. I go to London every couple of weeks or so full of good genealogy intentions and end up meeting friends for lunch and going shopping instead! lol Daisy |

Like you all I find the brickwalls is what makes me want to stop. It is now easier to do other peoples trees with all I have learned over the past 7 years. Often thought I would like to start mine all over again and be more organised, I have mountains of paperwork, some of which I have no idea what it relates to. Carol |

Im at a brick wall at the moment as well, so I either come here for a bit then play a few games. Somedays after Ive been thinking about some ancestors im back on it again thinking there must be another avenue to go down, but its a long long avenue and then im back to square one again. Never mind dont give up. |

Although I am still interested I just can't find anymore information an I have already got. I have looked and looked for a death which does not seem to be there and for someone on the 1901 census whom is not there I think he was in the army but someone looked at Kew for me and could find nothing on him at all Margaret |

Same here Paul. I cannot find my paternal grandparents anywhere!! Their names are on my Dad's birth cert.but I'm having a devil of a job tracking them down. I might never find them as sadly all my Dad's generation have passed on. I've searched for years( my Dad was fostered) and had hoped to find what happened to his parents. I've sent for lots of certs., with same names, so I will just have to keep hoping I hit the 'jack pot' one day! Good luck Mau xx |

I haven't lost interest but have slowed down. To get further with some I ha to travel, when using public transport this is hard. Especially when a lot come from the Emerald Isle. Then there is Grandad Mack. Who is he where is he from ?????. I set off thinking yes I will solve the mystery no such luck. No help on his marriage cert at all. Nosign on a census Can't even go to his grave as he was buried in a paupers grave and yes the records were destroyed in a fire. But I won't give up looking one day perhaps. As for the kids they are not one bit interested but they have been told DO NOT destroy all my hard work. Germaine x |

Oh good I am not alone then! Thanks for this thread Paul - I had this image of you all working away at your tree and popping in here for a break! Felt a bit of a fraud as not done much for a few months! Hope my enthusiasm returns. *off to search for enthusiasm* Kaz x |

I feel so much better having read this thread - I thought I was the only one! It isn`t that I have lost interest it is just that I have come up against yet another brick wall. I have found in the past that I have these 'lulls' and then something happens to get me going again. I know this is a hobby that never ends, so I reckon it is ok to have a break every so often. Every night I think I will go through all my notes to see where I need to concentrate my efforts, but then I put it off for another night. Oh well, off to check my notes then.........maybe !! I'm with Bev here. I am totally obsessed. I resent anything that takes me away from my hobby. I have hit a brick wall on my fathers side but discovered the LDS in Kensington have Scottish records.... heaven. I'm lucky I suppose as I live in London and my 3 main branches were all Londoners back to the eartly 1800s. Jean x. |
