2nd update - Poor little Bazil has taken a turn for the worse... His teeth have 'warped' so they dont meet and he is unable to eat by himself..The wound where the abcess was removed was checked by the vet today and we discovered the abcess wasnt completely removed and the infection is still there...He has had more pain relief today and will be back Friday...I am hoping to see him improve this week as i am due to go away to Cornwall on Saturday..If he doesnt improve i will be staying behind to care for him... Hi Lou I don't know much about rabbits - never had one - but that doesn't sound good - is it normal for their teeth to do that?? Hope the vet can work some more magic xxx |

No, it's not normal.. His previous 'owners' neglected him, he was left starving in a cage and hadnt been fed the correct diet from an early age...His back teeth are overgrown and havnt been able to ware down as they would if he'd been eating 'roughage'...Rabbits back teeth cannot be removed, they are connected to the jaw...His front teeth are diseased, again damage caused from an early age...His teeth have gotten so bad that the front have 'warped' ( the bottom teeth are infront of the top and both continually grow as he cant ware them down) They can be removed under GA but he is too poorly at the moment and wouldnt survive the op, he was under anesthetic too long the other day and they had to bring him round before they could do his teeth....The abcess is caused by the problems with his teeth.... I can understand why people have been so concerned about an insignificant thing like a rabbit. Many of us have a genuine love for Gods little creatures. We had a rabbit a few years ago, and he was great. He lived in the house, buit as we lived in the country he had the run of the whole garden and fields around. He used to sit by the gate, waiting for my husband to come home from work, and when I let him out in the mornings he used to run around our feet like a dog. Unfortunately, because he had so much freedom, we think one of the farm dogs chased him, because he had a heart attack, which we have heard is quite common in rabbits. Many tears were shed for that 'insignificant' rabbit. He was worth every one.Hope all is ok with this one. Lynda x |
