Unfortunately I can't find where the Stimpson bit came from (apart from his Mum who was Annie Constance STIMPSON Weedon!) Fascinating though, this name quest! Allie x

My Dad had the glorious name Cecil Herbert Ellis Stimpson (surname Gilbert) We named our son Ellis Ferguson, not really after my Dad, but because we liked it. Since then, doing my tree, I've found that the name ELLIS goes way back on both sides of my family, so as you can imagine, I'm so glad to have unwittingly carried on the tradition! It's a bit spooky though to have chosen that name....... Allie x

Yes it is a first name and the only one on the St Catherines Index - on the 1881 census he is just Maher......I wonder why? Seems that there is a film star in the US with the same name. He died in 1893.

My second cousin and his wife named their little boy SPARKY!! They are both avid Man Utd supporters and loved Mark Hughes who played for them at the time, his nickname was Sparky, they must have been gutted a few months later when he was transfered to Chelsea! Rosi
