Hiya Babe, I've been several times for colposcopy. And being the girl that starts screeching with pain as soon as I get into the doctors for a smear - I can say this is no more painful. When I first got a call back I totally panicked - and then made myself worse by reading websites that were very inclear on the different stages of everything to do with the smear test progression. My best advice is DO NOT PANIC. AT this stage you're most likely been recalled as theres some cell growth in your smear test that they don't expect and they want an expert to have a closer look at whats going on. The most usual cause for this is a thing called HPV (human papilloma virus) which in the early stages they can treat (i've had the treatment - but I won't darken your door with THAT experience unless you're really wanting to know) If you want to mail/PM me I can can go through it all with you and let you know what to expect and the various stages you MAY go onto if they think it's neceassary. Zoe p.s. HUGS. when I got my recall (by phone) I burst into tears in the middle of the office - so at least you've been saved that embarrassment. |

Anne....hysteroscopy.......it's where they go further 'in' to have a better look....had this done on Weds just past and then they took samples from me..........not going to lie it's (sweary word) sore but I'm a woose with pain so it may not have been that bad.........think major monthly cramp x10!!!! You get a groovy chair to sit in....kinda like a dentist chair with no obvious seat part!!!! p.s......leave your dignity at the door!!!! RDA.x. |

Had to have a cone biopsy in 1980 as dodgy smears, frequent checks for some time afterwards then I got pregnant as soon as I tried, when I hadn't even tho tried for seven years after Zoe died. No probs since and only smears every 3 years now. I am sure you will soon be sorted out and it won't be so bad, just try to be as relaxed as possible beforehand and positive all through. Liz |

Deanna, I didn't have the sleep option when I had a colonoscopy a few years ago either! They just stuck a tube up my nose and I had to swallow it, then they fed it through my stomach down to my colon. Yeuk!!! Then they poured all this white stuff down the tube. It was revolting and even more so afterwards if you know what I mean!!! I got home just in time. Hope everything goes ok for you Anne!!! Big hugs to you!!!! Carol x |

had one a few years ago. My appointment was at the beginning of January so had to fret all over christmas waiting. Think the worse bit is they give you a tv screen to look at and it makes it all look worse than it is. No real pain maybe just a stinging but looking on the screen looks awful . So if you are squeamish just shut your eyes lay back and relax!!!! |

I had one 21 years ago after abnormal results after my youngest child was born. I watched it all on the monitor - amazing for sqeamish little old me! I found it fascinating, it just looked like the inside of someones mouth!!!! I remember a few stomach cramps afterwards, but nothing major. I then had laser treatment a bit later and since then all has been fine. Good luck :o) Sue xx |

I've had this done, there is nothing to it, just embarrassing, as some one has already said, it also means yearly smears for 5 years, Tricia |
